Assistant hitting coach Mike Aldrete will become the bench coach and minor league manager Chris Maloney will become the first base coach.

The strategy has had success, according to Derrick Goold of The St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "That was one of my goals this offseason — to get better with the inside pitch and better at pulling the ball. I've done a little bit better job this spring," Craig said.

"Mark knew that he was going to get the strength and endurance and size. I know that the main motive to justify taking steroids was healing," Jay McGwire said. "I know that for a fact. But in the long run he knew the strength and the size and endurance will increase. I don't know why he's coming across that it was all healing." Mark McGwire has been estranged from Jay for eight years because of a family dispute. Jay said he convinced Mark to begin using steroids in 1994 and set him up with a supplier.
