Wed, 20 Apr 2016 23:50:56 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke allowed a run on six hits and a walk while fanning seven over 6 2/3 innings for his first win over the San Francisco Giants Wednesday, April 20.

Fantasy Tip: Greinke will be fine after a couple of rough starts to open the season. He remains an SP1.

Diamondbacks | Zack Greinke struggles again

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 06:36:41 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out eight batters through six innings during the Diamondbacks 4-2 loss to the Chicago Cubs Saturday, April 9.

Fantasy Tip: The strikeouts are a nice bonus, but Chicago is prone to the punchout, and Greinke currently sits with a 9.90 ERA through his first two starts of the season. The hurler will bounce back, but he might not be a lock to return another fantasy ace showing in 2016.

Diamondbacks | Zack Greinke pitched with flu

Tue, 05 Apr 2016 09:41:55 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke (illness) made his opening day start Monday, April 4, with the flu. Greinke gave up seven runs on nine hits in four innings.

Fantasy Tip: Last season's sub-2.00 ERA wasn't expected to be repeated, but his shelling Monday doesn't hurt as bad now. Greinke remains a solid SP1 in fantasy.

Diamondbacks | Zack Greinke torched in debut

Mon, 04 Apr 2016 23:27:19 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke had his worst outing in nearly four years, allowing seven runs in his team debut Monday, April 4, against the Colorado Rockies. He allowed six runs in the first inning, and three homers in a game for the first time since Aug. 19, 2009.

Fantasy Tip: Greinke signed a six-year, $206.5 million deal in the offseason, so this won't sit well with impatient fans. However, don't expect this to be a regular situation. He'll right the ship, as he likely just had jitters working in front of new fans with a new team.

Diamondbacks | Zack Greinke sharp Saturday

Sat, 19 Mar 2016 21:00:37 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings in spring training Saturday, March 19, allowing four hits and striking out seven.

Fantasy Tip: He now has a 1.88 ERA in the spring, and while he will now play his home games in more of a hitter-friendly park, he should still be a top 10 fantasy starter in 2016.

Diamondbacks | Zack Greinke touched up a bit

Mon, 14 Mar 2016 19:32:03 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke allowed three earned runs and six hits with no walks and two stirkeouts over 3 2/3 innings in the Cactus League spring outing against the Seattle Mariners Monday, March 14.

Fantasy Tip: Greinke had been humming along this spring, so he was due for a shaky outing. In addition, he could have been trying out some new stuff. Either way, he is a Top 10 fantasy option in all formats heading into the regular season, regardless of good or bad spring stats.

Diamondbacks | Zack Greinke already locked in

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 22:20:16 -0800

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke worked three scoreless innings, allowing three soft singles and a soft line drive to right field, throwing 24 of his 38 pitches for strikes in his Cactus League spring start Wednesday, March 9, against the San Diego Padres. He also worked in the bullpen more after the appearance.

Fantasy Tip: Greinke has impressed so far, but don't get too excited over good or bad stat lines in the spring. Still, it does put fantasy owners' minds at ease, especially in keeper formats, when a guy is transitioning to a new team and the move appears to be seamless.

Diamondbacks | Zack Greinke to start opener

Wed, 17 Feb 2016 12:26:01 -0800

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke will start on Opening Day, according to manager Chip Hale.

Fantasy Tip: Shocker here, folks. Greinke had an outstanding year with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2015. Those numbers will be hard to match, especially in a more hitter-friendly environment in Arizona. However, Greinke remains elite and is an ace for fantasy purposes.

Diamondbacks | Zack Greinke to receive $206 million

Fri, 04 Dec 2015 18:13:05 -0800

Updating a previous report, the Arizona Diamondbacks have signed free-agent SP Zack Greinke (Dodgers) to a six-year contract worth $206 million, according to multiple sources. The deal includes deferrals which will lower the present-day value of the agreement.

Fantasy Tip: Greinke is one of the elite starting pitchers in fantasy baseball and should be selected in the early rounds of all fantasy formats. He led all MLB starters in ERA (1.66), WHIP (0.844) and winning percentage (.864) while ranking third in the majors in victories (19) and fifth in innings pitched (222 2/3). In addition to being an excellent choice to anchor a rotation in a seasonal league, he is also one of the safest starting pitching options in FantasyScore.

Diamondbacks | ARI agrees to terms with Zack Greinke

Fri, 04 Dec 2015 17:06:13 -0800

The Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to terms with free-agent SP Zack Greinke (Dodgers), according to multiple sources. The deal, which is reported to be six years long, is pending a physical. Financial terms have not been released.

Fantasy Tip: This is a surprising development to say the least, given that the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants were the heavy favorites to sign him this offseason. He is one of the top starting pitchers in baseball and should be drafted in the early rounds of all fantasy formats, although his numbers may take a slight tumble due to the hitter-friendly dimensions of Chase Field. The 32-year-old Greinke went 19-3 with a league-leading 1.66 ERA in 32 regular-season starts in 2015, with 200 strikeouts in 222 2/3 innings, and immediately becomes the ace of Arizona's staff.
