Diamondbacks | Zack Greinke to receive $206 million

Fri, 04 Dec 2015 18:13:05 -0800

Updating a previous report, the Arizona Diamondbacks have signed free-agent SP Zack Greinke (Dodgers) to a six-year contract worth $206 million, according to multiple sources. The deal includes deferrals which will lower the present-day value of the agreement.

Fantasy Tip: Greinke is one of the elite starting pitchers in fantasy baseball and should be selected in the early rounds of all fantasy formats. He led all MLB starters in ERA (1.66), WHIP (0.844) and winning percentage (.864) while ranking third in the majors in victories (19) and fifth in innings pitched (222 2/3). In addition to being an excellent choice to anchor a rotation in a seasonal league, he is also one of the safest starting pitching options in FantasyScore.

Diamondbacks | ARI agrees to terms with Zack Greinke

Fri, 04 Dec 2015 17:06:13 -0800

The Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to terms with free-agent SP Zack Greinke (Dodgers), according to multiple sources. The deal, which is reported to be six years long, is pending a physical. Financial terms have not been released.

Fantasy Tip: This is a surprising development to say the least, given that the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants were the heavy favorites to sign him this offseason. He is one of the top starting pitchers in baseball and should be drafted in the early rounds of all fantasy formats, although his numbers may take a slight tumble due to the hitter-friendly dimensions of Chase Field. The 32-year-old Greinke went 19-3 with a league-leading 1.66 ERA in 32 regular-season starts in 2015, with 200 strikeouts in 222 2/3 innings, and immediately becomes the ace of Arizona's staff.

Diamondbacks | Arizona after Zack Greinke

Fri, 04 Dec 2015 15:26:22 -0800

Free-agent SP Zack Greinke (Dodgers) is of interest to the Arizona Diamondbacks, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Greinke is expected to sign with the Los Angeles Dodgers or San Francisco Giants, however, stranger things have happened. In the off chance he joins the Snakes, Greinke's fantasy stock could take a slight hit pitching at hitter-friendly Chase Field. Stay tuned, as it is likely Greinke signs sooner than later.

Dodgers | Zack Greinke could fetch $35 million

Wed, 02 Dec 2015 11:16:03 -0800

Free-agent SP Zack Greinke (Dodgers) could receive a seven-year, $210 million offer from the Los Angeles Dodgers, which would equate to $35 million per year, according to one major league executive.

Fantasy Tip: Greinke would benefit returning to Dodger Stadium, but he's probably a fantasy SP1 regardless of where he signs.

MLB | Zack Greinke down to two teams?

Tue, 01 Dec 2015 14:37:08 -0800

Free-agent SP Zack Greinke (Dodgers) is expected to sign with either the Los Angeles Dodgers or San Francisco Giants on a five- or six-year deal by the end of the week. The Dodgers remain the favorites to bring him back.

Fantasy Tip: Greinke is now the top starting pitcher available on the market after David Price agreed with the Boston Red Sox Tuesday. Greinke just missed out on a Cy Young in 2015 as one of the most dominant overall pitchers in the game. Staying in the National League West is probably the best for his overall fantasy value, as both Los Angeles and San Fran have friendly pitching environments. Greinke will be one of the top overall pitchers off the board in fantasy baseball drafts, and for good reason.

Giants | San Francisco favorite for Zack Greinke?

Fri, 20 Nov 2015 14:25:00 -0800

Free-agent SP Zack Greinke (Dodgers) signing with the San Francisco Giants is his most likely landing spot, according to sources. The Giants already established Greinke was their No. 1 target this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Greinke had a career-best season in 2015, and he is a fantasy ace regardless of the jersey he dons. He should be one of the first arms grabbed in all seasonal drafts this spring. Stay tuned for updates.

Giants | San Francisco looking to upgrade rotation

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 13:27:06 -0800

Free-agent SPs Zack Greinke (Dodgers), Jeff Samardzija (White Sox) and Mike Leake (Giants) are pitchers of interest to the San Francisco Giants, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: While it would be foolish to expect Greinke to repeat his 1.66 ERA showing from 2015, he did post a 2.68 mark through 380 innings from 2013-2014. He is a top-tier arm. Samardzija had a rough 2015 season, so a return to the National League bodes well for the veteran. Leake isn't matchup proof so only in cavernous mixed and NL/AL-only leagues is he worth a permanent roster spot. Check back for updates on the Giants offseason activity.

Dodgers | LA wants Zack Greinke back

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 10:46:45 -0800

The Los Angeles Dodgers top free-agent target is to bring SP Zack Greinke back, with free-agent SP David Price (Blue Jays) a close second. The odds are that the Dodgers will get one of them. The San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox will likely be their main competitors for those arms.

Fantasy Tip: Greinke and Price will have their fair share of suitors this offseason, and rightfully so. Greinke had the lowest ERA in all of baseball this year and is a favorite for the NL Cy Young award. No matter where these two aces land in free agency, they are sure to be two of the first few starting names off the board in fantasy drafts next year.

Dodgers | Zack Greinke opts out

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 07:13:54 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Zack Greinke exercised the opt-out clause in his contract Wednesday, Nov. 4. He was set to earn $71 million over the next three years.

Fantasy Tip: Greinke will be a top-five SP candidate in drafts just about anywhere he signs.

Dodgers | Zack Greinke to opt out, could re-sign

Fri, 16 Oct 2015 05:33:32 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Zack Greinke intends to opt out of the final three years and $71 million left on his contract, according to sources. One general manager suggested Greinke could land a five-year deal worth $150 million or more. According to a source, Greinke loves the Dodgers' clubhouse this season, and they love him. He could re-sign with the team.

Fantasy Tip: Greinke turns 32 next week, but after a 1.66 ERA this season, he'll remain one of the top SP targets in traditional leagues next year.
