Diamondbacks | Zack Greinke likely to make rehab start Friday

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 22:15:05 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke (oblique) had a 40-pitch bullpen session on Tuesday, July 26, and manager Chip Hale indicated that Greinke will likely take the hill in an Arizona Rookie League game on Friday, July 26.

Fantasy Tip: Greinke, out since June 29, looks like he's making some progress and getting closer to a return. Of course, with the D-backs already playing out the string they'll take no chances in rushing him back in action.

Diamondbacks | Zack Greinke timeline update

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 14:39:34 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke (oblique) will throw an up-and-down bullpen session to simulate a game atmosphere Tuesday, July 26. He will then throw a simulated game or make a rehab appearance Friday, July 29, if all goes well.

Fantasy Tip: Greinke could land back in the majors for a start next week, barring any setbacks. He's posted a 8-1 record with a 2.63 ERA and 67 strikeouts over 78 2/3 innings over his latest 12 starts. Greinke should be stashed in all fantasy formats.

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 14:45:50 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke (oblique) threw 45 pitches during a bullpen session Sunday, July 24. His next step either will be a simulated game with the Diamondbacks or a minor league rehab game, manager Chip Hale said.

Fantasy Tip: Keep an eye on Greinke's progress and be prepared to activate him after he has had one major league start, mainly to see how Greinke does when he returns.

Diamondbacks | Braden Shipley to start Monday

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 18:24:17 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Braden Shipley will be promoted from Class AAA Reno to make his MLB debut against the Milwaukee Brewers Monday, July 25. Although he is filling in for injured SP Zack Greinke (oblique), it is uncertain if Shipley will remain in the rotation beyond Monday's game.

Fantasy Tip: The 24-year-old right-hander was 8-5 with a 3.70 ERA in 19 starts for Reno, with 22 walks and 77 strikeouts over 119 1/3 innings. He may be worth picking up in NL-only seasonal leagues but daily fantasy players should avoid using Shipley because of his lack of a track record at the big-league level.

Diamondbacks | Zack Greinke rehab update

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 19:00:02 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke (oblique) played catch from a distance of 120 to 150 feet Tuesday, July 19. He could have a bullpen workout in the coming days, according to manager Chip Hale.

Fantasy Tip: Greinke was pitching well prior to landing on the disabled list and should remain stashed in all fantasy formats. Since April 30, the 32-year-old right-hander is 8-1 with a 2.63 ERA over 12 starts, with 15 walks and 67 strikeouts over 78 2/3 innings.

Diamondbacks | Zack Greinke throwing off mound

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 10:28:00 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke (oblique) is expected to throw off a mound Wednesday, July 20, for the first time since sustaining an oblique injury Tuesday, June 28.

Fantasy Tip: Greinke went 7-0 with a 2.18 ERA and limited opposing hitters to a .224 on-base percentage through his eight starts prior to his injury-shortened outing June 28. Continue to stash Greinke in all fantasy formats and check back for updates.

Diamondbacks | Zack Greinke plays catch

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 15:21:53 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke (oblique) played catch again Tuesday, July 19, but manager Chip Hale said it's unlikely Greinke makes his return against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Fantasy Tip: The D-backs are understandably being cautious with their best pitcher, who is dealing with a tricky injury for hurlers. After a bad start with his new team, Greinke has rebounded nicely and sports a 3.62 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 7.5 K/9. His owners will want to immediately return him to their lineups when he's back, but patience is required.

Diamondbacks | Zack Greinke throws

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 09:29:40 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke (oblique) played catch from 60 feet Thursday, July 14, and he's hopeful to start July 25 or July 26 against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Fantasy Tip: They could opt for him to make a rehab start, but his return seems to be in a matter of days. Keep him stashed in all formats.

Diamondbacks | Zack Greinke placed on DL

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 10:27:15 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke (oblique) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, July 3, because of a left oblique strain. The team also activated OF Rickie Weeks from the bereavement list.

Fantasy Tip: The Diamondbacks hope Greinke will be able to return shortly after the All-Star break, so it does not appear like he is dealing with a serious injury. Zack Godley likely will be recalled from the minor leagues to take his spot in the rotation. Godley has gone 4-6 with a 3.68 ERA in 12 starts for Class AAA Reno and would not be a strong fantasy option. Weeks does not have much value outside NL-only leagues.
