Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly has spoken with SS Hanley Ramirez in hopes of keeping him focused on baseball while contract extension discussions are ongoing. "It's a conversation I wanted to have. I didn't want it hanging out there," said Mattingly. "I've been a player, I know. He knows what I think about him as a player."

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly admitted that he will consider using OF Yasiel Puig in the leadoff spot this season. Such a move would provide better right-lefty balance in the lineup and move OF Carl Crawford further down. Crawford would bat second, SS Hanley Ramirez third and 1B Adrian Gonzalez fourth. Puig had a .391 on-base percentage last year, which was second on the team. Puig was in the leadoff spot for 28 games last year and had a slash line of .333/.409/.618 with eight of his 19 home runs.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are expected to begin talks with manager Don Mattingly on a contract extension in a few days. "We feel confident Stan will be reaching out to Don within a few days, but we don't know his timetable," Mattingly's agent, Ray Schulte, said. "We understand the Dodgers won't be making any comments concerning those conversations until after the completion of the World Series." Mattingly will make $1.4 million in the final year of his deal.

"When you're put in this situation, the organization basically says, 'We don't know if you can manage or not,'" Mattingly said. "So, that's the position I've been in all season long, so that's not a great position for me as a manager. That's the way it is, that's the way the organization wanted it last year, that's fine." General manager Ned Colletti said the issue will be "resolved very quickly."

President Stan Kasten and general manager Ned Colletti will meet with Mattingly in the next few days. The team holds an option for the 2014 season on Mattingly that will need to be exercised in November. It's believed they've discussed a multi-year contract with Mattingly's agent.
