The latest Don Mattingly MLB and fantasy baseball news
Mon, 09 Jan 2012 14:31:15 -0800 Los Angeles Dodgers skipper Don Mattingly said he thinks Milwaukee Brewers OF Ryan Braun should not win the Most Valuable Player award if he indeed tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug. However, Mattingly said he hopes Braun wins his appeal process regarding a 50-game suspension for a positive test. "In the end, I hope the appeal it's something that was a mistake. I don't want to see anything bad come out of it for him," Mattingly said.
Fri, 30 Sep 2011 11:20:09 -0700 Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said his entire coaching staff will return for the 2012 season.
Sat, 13 Aug 2011 02:07:55 -0700 Los Angeles Dodgers SP Nathan Eovaldi likely won't make it to the end of the season before he reaches his innings limit, Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said before the game Friday, Aug. 12. Eovaldi has about 30-35 innings remaining before the team will move him out of the rotation. Mattingly said it's likely Eovaldi will be replaced by John Ely.
Fri, 08 Jul 2011 01:16:42 -0700 Los Angeles Dodgers C A.J. Ellis is the team's primary catcher for the time being, according to manager Don Mattingly. "I just like what A.J. brings," Manager Don Mattingly said. "I know he studies ... I don't mind Dee (Dioner Navarro) back there, but I feel like A.J.'s the one -- I feel like when he puts down a finger, he knows there's a reason why."
Sat, 18 Jun 2011 11:56:56 -0700 Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly plans to meet with SP Chad Billingsley and pitching coach Rick Honeycutt to discuss Billingsley's recent struggles. He has posted an 11.19 ERA over his last three starts. "There's too many balls in the middle of the plate," Mattingly said. "The other day, he was just firing - and that's what I was upset about. Bills is one of those guys who throws harder and harder when he's struggling instead of throwing quality pitches. But there's days when you don't have that good stuff, so you've got to make an adjustment and pitch a little differently. I mean, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result."
Mon, 30 May 2011 01:21:21 -0700 Los Angeles Dodgers OF Matt Kemp and manager Don Mattingly were ejected from the game Sunday, May 29, against the Florida Marlins for arguing balls and strikes.
Fri, 25 Feb 2011 23:55:08 -0800 Los Angeles Dodgers RP Rubby De La Rosa is impressing coaching staff with his pitching, but Dodgers manager Don Mattingly told MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez that he's still cautionary. "There's been a lot of talk about him. His stuff has been electric but again, he's a younger guy that is coming. But he's got to keep proving so I don't want to anoint anybody," Mattingly said. "We have good reports about Rubby and he obviously has a bright future, but he has to continue to go out and get better and improve."
Mon, 18 Oct 2010 14:07:13 -0700 The Los Angeles Dodgers and manager Don Mattingly appear to be close to finalizing their coaching staff, according to ESPNLosAngeles.com. Jeff Pentland looks to be the favorite to be named hitting coach. Pitching coach Rick Honeycutt will return, but third base coach Larry Bowa will not be back. Tim Wallach could join the team as the third base coach.
Sun, 17 Oct 2010 12:04:10 -0700 Los Angeles Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said he will not reveal the coaching staff for manager Don Mattingly until all of the positions have been filled, according to MLB.com's Ken Gurnick. However, there are strong indications that pitching coach Rick Honeycutt, bullpen coach Ken Howell and hitting instructor Manny Mota will return. Tim Wallach, manager of the Triple-A Albuquerque farm team, is expected to be named third-base coach. Larry Bowa and Mariano Duncan, who served as base coaches under manager Joe Torre during the 2010 season, are not expected to return, while bench coach Bob Schaefer announced earlier this month that he will not be back.
