Dodgers | Carl Crawford not close to returning

Mon, 22 Jun 2015 15:18:24 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Carl Crawford (oblique) is 10 days away from playing in games, but he'll likely need plenty of games after missing two months of action, according to manager Don Mattingly.

Fantasy Tip: There's really no reason to hang onto Crawford in shallow mixed leagues. Andre Ethier ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has basically become the team's everyday left fielder now, and he makes for a nice value pick against right-handed pitchers. All nine of Ethier's homer this year have come off of righties.

Dodgers | Kenley Jansen not available

Thu, 04 Jun 2015 04:57:50 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers RP Kenley Jansen was not used Wednesday, June 3, against the Colorado Rockies. When asked why Jansen wasn't used, Dodgers manager Don Mattingly repeatedly said he "wasn't available."

Fantasy Tip: It could be Mattingly wanted to save his bullpen, but the important part was the Dodgers blew the game when Jansen could have been used. If you have Jansen in an annual league, the advice is to stay away until this mystery has been solved. It could be just an off night, but there could be more behind the scenes to this.

Dodgers | Don Mattingly not worried about future

Fri, 10 Oct 2014 08:47:32 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said he expects to return for the 2015 season, and he'd be surprised if general manager Ned Colletti doesn't stay, too. Both Mattingly and Colletti are under scrutiny after the team had the highest payroll in baseball and didn't advance past the National League Division Series. Colletti is believed to be under more pressure than Mattingly after he failed to upgrade the team's bullpen at the trade deadline this summer.

Dodgers | Hanley Ramirez wont play everyday

Thu, 03 Jul 2014 15:22:43 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SS Hanley Ramirez (calf) will play "A couple of days here and a couple of days there," according to manager Don Mattingly.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez's playing time appears likely to continue being an irritant to fantasy owners, for at least the immediate future. He could fill the designated hitter role this weekend in Detroit, which certainly helps. If you haven't already, finding another shortstop to pair with Ramirez is advised. Missing too many games can be detrimental to your counting stats year-end totals. Miguel Rojas has filled in when Ramirez has been out, so he maintains marginal value in NL-only leagues for the time being

Dodgers | Don Mattingly citing lack of team chemistry

Thu, 05 Jun 2014 08:48:59 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said the reason the team is barely over .500 is because they lack chemistry. "It may be a day here or a day there, but it hasn't felt like a true team at this point where we're all on that Tommy Lasorda end of the rope and worried about the Dodgers and, 'This is where we're going and I don't care what happens today, we're going to get there,'" said Mattingly, whose Dodgers entered the season with a $239 million payroll. The team has not won or lost more than three games in a row all year.

Dodgers | Manager trying to keep Hanley Ramirez focused

Tue, 18 Feb 2014 10:52:41 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly has spoken with SS Hanley Ramirez in hopes of keeping him focused on baseball while contract extension discussions are ongoing. "It's a conversation I wanted to have. I didn't want it hanging out there," said Mattingly. "I've been a player, I know. He knows what I think about him as a player."

Dodgers | Yasiel Puig could lead off

Mon, 03 Feb 2014 15:33:19 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly admitted that he will consider using OF Yasiel Puig in the leadoff spot this season. Such a move would provide better right-lefty balance in the lineup and move OF Carl Crawford further down. Crawford would bat second, SS Hanley Ramirez third and 1B Adrian Gonzalez fourth. Puig had a .391 on-base percentage last year, which was second on the team. Puig was in the leadoff spot for 28 games last year and had a slash line of .333/.409/.618 with eight of his 19 home runs.
