The Florida Marlins optioned SP Sean West, SP Alex Sanabia, RP Dustin Richardson, OF Bryan Petersen and P Steven Cishek to Triple-A New Orleans; released OF Chris Lubanski; and reassigned C Kyle Skipworth, C Vinny Rottino, P Tom Koehler and SP Shawn Hill to minor league camp, The Miami Herald's Clark Spencer reports.

The Florida Marlins have signed free-agent RP Shawn Hill (Blue Jays) to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training, according to MLB.com's Joe Frisaro. Hill will earn $600,000 if he makes the parent club.

Toronto Blue Jays SP Shawn Hill tossed five shutout innings to beat the Seattle Mariners Thursday, Sept. 23, and win for the first time since April of 2009, according to The Associated Press. Hill allowed four hits and walked one while matching a career high by striking out seven.

Toronto Blue Jays SP Shawn Hill (0-1), who was making his season debut in a comeback from a second Tommy John surgery, was charged with eight hits and four runs over 5 1/3 innings, according to The Sports Network. "Overall, it wasn't terrible," Hill said. "All things considered, it was OK. My stuff wasn't very good."
