Wed, 01 Jul 2015 08:38:31 -0700

Cardinals | Matt Holliday taking BP

Sat, 27 Jun 2015 14:09:07 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (quadriceps) is taking batting practice Saturday, June 27.

Fantasy Tip: Holly is making steady progress. His original timetable has him missing three more weeks. He might be ahead of schedule from that if he comes out of BP fine.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday hopeful to run next week

Fri, 26 Jun 2015 15:16:38 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (quadriceps) is expected to test his quadriceps running next week, and the organization is not ruling out a return before the All-Star break.

Fantasy Tip: It appears to be an aggressive timeline, especially with Holliday not even beginning to run until next week. He'll need a rehab assignment, too. Fantasy owners shouldn't count on any returns from Holliday until late July. Continue to stash him in all formats.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday not running

Fri, 26 Jun 2015 09:00:00 -0700

Updating a previous report, St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (quadriceps) has ramped up his baseball activities but isn't ready to return to game action, as he hasn't even progressed to the point where he can test his leg by running. He has hit off a tee and played catch and said his quadriceps was getting "stronger" and "better." Holliday is getting closer, but there is no clear timetable for a return.

Fantasy Tip: Holliday needs to remain stashed in a DL slot in all leagues. Be patient, as he can still be effective for your team in the second half. Randal Grichuk ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) has been effective for fantasy owners in all leagues, and his mix of speed and power plays nicely at FantasyScore, too, for a modest price.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday starts activities

Fri, 26 Jun 2015 06:01:16 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (quadriceps) has begun throwing and hitting off a tee this week. Holliday has received acupuncture as part of his treatment, and he has been able to strengthen the leg.

Fantasy Tip: He's still three or four weeks away from a return. Keep him stashed in all formats. Randal Grichuk ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) has come alive in Holly's absence. He has a .348-3-5 line the last week and is a mid-to-low outfield option on FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday out another month

Fri, 19 Jun 2015 09:31:36 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (quadriceps) is expected to be out another month.

Fantasy Tip: Randal Grichuk ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) is filling in, and the team is absolutely enamored with his five-tool potential. He's hitting .239-1-4 with 18 K's in 46 June at-bats, so he has a ways to go. He's a low-end matchup player on FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Jon Jay starting in left field

Tue, 09 Jun 2015 16:25:17 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay will start in left field and hit seventh in the order Tuesday, June 9, against the Colorado Rockies. Jay is replacing OF Matt Holliday (quadriceps).

Fantasy Tip: Jay ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) is hitting just .222 against lefties for the season, so he can be avoided against LHP Jorge De La Rosa, even at Coors Field. Jay gets the first crack to be Holliday's real-life replacement in left field, but he won't hold much fantasy value in anything other than NL-only leagues.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday with Grade 2 strain

Tue, 09 Jun 2015 16:18:53 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (quadriceps) was diagnosed with a Grade 2 quadriceps strain.

Fantasy Tip: That means Holliday ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) is dealing with a partial tear, and he'll be re-evaluated in several weeks. He'll be guaranteed to be out more than the 15 days on the DL, and he could be out much longer depending on how his body bounces back in rehab games. In the meantime, Jon Jay ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) and Peter Bourjos ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) are likely to platoon in the outfield. Bourjos is the more attractive FantasyScore pick because of his ability to steal bases.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday lands on DL

Tue, 09 Jun 2015 13:54:48 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (quadriceps) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, June 9. RP Miguel Socolovich was recalled from Class AAA Memphis in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Holliday's injury looked pretty serious last night, and he had to be helped off the field. We could see this being an ailment that keeps him out well beyond the 15 days, but stay tuned for a more clear prognosis of his injury. Plan for the worst if you own him. Jon Jay ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) and Peter Bourjos ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) figure to platoon in the outfield with Holliday out. They are very similar players, with Bourjos probably having more value as a speed threat. Don't count out a promotion of Stephen Piscotty from the minors. Hint, hint dynasty and keeper leaguers.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday has quad strain

Mon, 08 Jun 2015 20:03:39 -0700

Updating a previous report, St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (quadriceps) left the game Monday, June 8, against the Colorado Rockies due to a strained right quadriceps. He will be re-evaluated Tuesday, June 9.

Fantasy Tip: Itís uncertain how much time, if any, Holliday will miss. Avoid Holliday ($5,000; or 10.0% of cap) in FantasyScore until he can officially return and prove his health. Jon Jay ($2,300; or 4.6% of cap) could see increased at-bats if Holliday is forced to sit.
