Cardinals | Matt Holliday resting

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 14:46:25 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday is not in the starting lineup Monday, July 27. OF Stephen Piscotty is starting in left field and hitting sixth against Cincinnati Reds SP Raisel Iglesias.

Fantasy Tip: Piscotty ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has four hits in his first 12 at-bats (.333) for the Cardinals after being called up last week. He's mainly a line-drive hitter that is developing a power stroke, and he can also run a little bit. You can do much worse than Piscotty when searching for an under-the-radar value play at outfield.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday serves as DH again

Wed, 22 Jul 2015 22:12:37 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (quadriceps) served as the designated hitter for the second straight game Wednesday, July 22, against the Chicago White Sox. He has yet to be cleared to run at full speed yet.

Fantasy Tip: Holliday ($4,900; or 9.8% of cap) had a single in three at-bats. He might not be able to run at full speed, but he had a grand slam Tuesday and is still a fine FantasyScore play.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday out of the lineup

Sun, 19 Jul 2015 10:39:38 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday is not in the starting lineup against New York Mets SP Jon Niese Sunday, July 19. OF Tommy Pham will start in right field and is batting sixth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: The team likely is taking things slow with Holliday ($4,000, 8.0% of cap), so he is receiving a day off. Pham ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has only three hits in his last seven games, and owners likely will be able to find better options to use.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday hitless in return

Fri, 17 Jul 2015 21:27:46 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (quadriceps) went 0-for-3 in a 3-2 win over the New York Mets Friday, July 17, in his first start since being activated from the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Holliday ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) hasn't found his power stroke this year, and while his batting average remains solid, he doesn't offer much upside at FantasyScore right now.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday hitting third in return

Fri, 17 Jul 2015 15:47:57 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (quadriceps) is hitting third and playing left field in his return to the lineup Friday, July 17, against New York Mets SP Noah Syndergaard. Holliday was hitting .303 with a .417 on-base percentage before he was injured in the first half. SS Jhonny Peralta moves down to cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: Holliday ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) draws a tough matchup in Syndergaard in his first game off the DL to start the second half. Sitting him out tonight in both traditional and daily leagues wouldn't be a bad idea.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday activated

Fri, 17 Jul 2015 13:30:33 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (quadriceps), as expected, was activated from the 15-day disabled list Friday, July 17. RP Nick Greenwood was optioned to Class AAA Memphis in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Holliday ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is a welcomed addition to the St. Louis lineup and lineups of his fantasy owners. His power and RBI numbers are down this year, but Holliday continues to get on base regularly (.417 on-base percentage) and is a valuable daily option. However, going against New York Mets starter Noah Syndergaard tonight, it might be wise to avoid him in his first game back after a long layoff.

Wed, 15 Jul 2015 07:32:38 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (quadriceps) will increase the intensity of his running Wednesday, July 15, for the next two days with the target of returning Friday, July 17.

Fantasy Tip: Holly ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is at a price that isn't too restrictive if you want to use him out of the gates on FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday will not play first base

Mon, 13 Jul 2015 15:02:35 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (quadriceps) will not play any first base when he returns from the disabled list, he said Monday, July 13.

Fantasy Tip: Holliday ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is very close to rejoining the Cards, and fantasy folks should continue to view him as a solid second-tier outfielder in all formats and a nice FantasyScore option in favorable matchups.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday working his way back

Mon, 13 Jul 2015 10:18:58 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (quadriceps) worked out prior to the Cardinals' July 12 game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He will sit out the All Star Game, but he expects to return to the lineup Friday, July 17, against the New York Mets to open the second half of the season. He has been sidelined since June 8.

Fantasy Tip: Holliday ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) hasn't hit for much power or stolen many bases in 2015, but he is still an effective performer in batting average and especially leagues that use on-base percentage. On FantasyScore you may want to see how Holliday gets acclimated to being back from the layoff, but he can be safely added to lineups in weekly leagues.
