Cardinals | Matt Holliday sets franchise record

Wed, 27 May 2015 18:55:49 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday reached base for the 43rd consecutive time to begin the 2015 season Wednesday, May 27, breaking the Cardinals' franchise record. Only five players since 1914 have had longer streaks.

Fantasy Tip: Holliday ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) has just three home runs on the season, and he still owns an inflated .385 BABIP. It's time to sell high on Holliday, as his power numbers have been trending down over the last four seasons.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday extends lengthy streak

Mon, 25 May 2015 15:13:57 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday extended his streak of reaching base safely to begin the season to 41 games Monday, May 25, against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Holliday is just one game shy of the club record set by Albert Pujols in 2008.

Fantasy Tip: Holliday ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) owns a batting average of .314 and an on-base percentage of .434 but his .373 BABIP is nearly 40 points above his career average. Holliday's walk rate is up considerably from his career average, but he has only three home runs through 173 plate appearances. Season-long owners should try and sell Holliday as the real-world success is really covering up Holliday's subpar fantasy season so far.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday will play Monday

Mon, 25 May 2015 10:48:44 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (forearm) is in the starting lineup Monday, May 25.

Fantasy Tip: Holliday ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) is back in the lineup after being scratched Sunday. He has cooled off a bit in May but is still hitting .314 on the season and should be a solid starting option for owners on FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday scratched Sunday

Sun, 24 May 2015 11:09:30 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (arm) was a last-minute scratch from the starting lineup against the Kansas City Royals Sunday, May 24, because of a left arm contusion. INF/OF Mark Reynolds started in left field in place of Holliday, batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Holliday ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) likely sustained the injury after getting hit in the left arm by pitches in each of the team's last two games. It is uncertain how much time he will miss or if he's available as a pinch hitter. Check back for updates on his status.

Cardinals | Jason Heyward not starting

Sat, 23 May 2015 13:52:11 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jason Heyward is not in the starting lineup Saturday, May 23, against the Kansas City Royals. OFs Matt Holliday, Randal Grichuk and Peter Bourjos will start with 1B Mark Reynolds serving as the designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) has three home runs on the season, and he has the ability to offer some occasional power. With a 33.7% strikeout rate and hitting out of the eighth spot in the batting order, Reynolds doesn't need much consideration on FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday sitting vs. Mets

Thu, 21 May 2015 08:07:08 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday is not in the starting lineup against the New York Mets Thursday, May 21. 1B Mark Reynolds is batting seventh and playing left field Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Holliday ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) in all fantasy formats Thursday, it is likely nothing more than a routine day off on getaway day. Reynolds ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) has hit a hot streak over the past 15 games, as he sports a .327/.364/.500 slash line with seven runs, two home runs and eight RBI. FantasyScore players should view him as an upside source of cap relief, albeit a somewhat risky one against stingy starting pitcher Jacob deGrom.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday produces at the plate

Wed, 20 May 2015 20:06:45 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday went 3-for-4 with one RBI against the New York Mets Wednesday, May 20.

Fantasy Tip: Holliday ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) has seen his batting average drop in May but is still hitting .328 and picked up an RBI in each of his last two games. Owners on FantasyScore could consider Holliday as a solid starting option most nights.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday continues to reach base

Thu, 14 May 2015 14:17:34 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday has reached base safely in 32 straight games, which is the longest streak in the majors this year and third longest to start a season in Cardinals history.

Fantasy Tip: Holliday ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) went 0-for-3 with a walk in the victory Thursday afternoon after being hit hard on his elbow the night before. It's a good sign for his owners that he was back in there in a day game after a night tilt, but his arm is worth watching. Holliday has been an excellent FantasyScore option on a daily basis this year.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday a late insertion

Thu, 14 May 2015 08:55:02 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (elbow) was a late insertion to the lineup Thursday, May 14, at designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Holly ($5,000, 10.0% of your cap) had trouble extending his lead arm yesterday. It's possible that the swelling was reduced in order to allow him to finish his swing. He's a risky option on FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Jhonny Peralta with day off

Thu, 14 May 2015 08:49:16 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SS Jhonny Peralta was a late scratch from the lineup Thursday, May 14, for OF Matt Holliday's (elbow) return.

Fantasy Tip: Peralta was slated to DH, but he is being given the day off instead. Pete Kozma ($1,600, 3.2% of your cap) is in at shortstop, but he has no FantasyScore appeal.
