Cardinals | Matt Holliday back by mid-September?

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 19:03:04 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (quadriceps) is not nearly as far along as some of his other rehabbing teammates, but he might begin running again as early as this week. General manager John Mozeliak did not feel a mid-September estimation for return was out of line when asked.

Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore players still have another four weeks to avoid Holliday. Wait to see him officially back and able to prove his health in a full game or two before pulling the trigger on him.

Cardinals | Still no timetable for Matt Holliday

Wed, 12 Aug 2015 13:12:52 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (quadriceps) has not resumed on-field baseball activities and still does not have an estimated return date. The Cardinals remain optimistic Holliday will play again this season, though.

Fantasy Tip: Holliday ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) is worth stashing in all fantasy leagues, but if your hand is forced with a lineup decision, don't be afraid to cut the outfielder loose. The Cardinals are almost in position to be looking ahead to the playoffs at this point, and it is Holliday's second injury to his right quadriceps. Continue to check back for updates.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday could return next month

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 17:22:56 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (quadriceps) is hoping to resume playing around mid-September, although no official timetable exists for his return.

Fantasy Tip: Holliday ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) was batting .290 with four home runs and 31 RBIs through 65 games prior to landing on the disabled list due to a strained right quadriceps. Don't be surprised to see the Cards err on the side of caution when it comes to his rehab, with the team poised to make a deep playoff run. Brandon Moss ($4,500, 9.0% of cap), Stephen Piscotty ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) and Mark Reynolds ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) will split time between first base and left field for the foreseeable future.

Cardinals | No timetable for Matt Holliday's return

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 18:21:26 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (quadriceps) received a platelet-rich plasma injection for his strained right quadriceps Thursday, July 30. There is no timetable for his return, although he believes that he'll return to action "soon."

Fantasy Tip: Expect the Cardinals to be cautious with Holliday ($4,900, 9.8% of cap), with the team hoping to make a deep playoff run. For the time being, Brandon Moss ($4,500, 9.0% of cap), Stephen Piscotty ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) and Mark Reynolds ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) are projected to split time between first base and left field.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday has Grade 2 strain

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 13:31:29 -0700

Updating a previous report, St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (quadriceps) has a Grade 2 quadriceps strain, according to general manger John Mozeliak. The organization is optimistic Holliday will return before the end of the season, though.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners should be less optimistic, especially considering he'll likely be eased back into action with plenty of caution. St. Louis is eyeing a deep playoff run, and they're not going to take any chances with Holliday ($4,900, 9.8% of cap). Brandon Moss ($4,500, 9.0% of cap), Stephen Piscotty ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) and Mark Reynolds ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) will likely rotate in and out of the lineup at first base and left field.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday officially placed on DL

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 11:41:37 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (quadriceps) was officially placed on the disabled list Thursday, July 30.

Fantasy Tip: Check back for a return timeline for Holliday ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) before making any hasty fantasy decisions. Although, given he missed six weeks with a right quadriceps injury already this season, it might be wishful thinking to expect any fantasy returns from him again in 2015. Plus, with the high hopes for a deep playoff run, the Cardinals will be extremely cautious with him. Newcomer Brandon Moss ($4,500, 9.0% of cap), Stephen Piscotty ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) and Mark Reynolds ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) project to rotate in and out of the lineup at left field and first base in Holliday's absence.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday to have MRI

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 20:48:14 -0700

Updating a previous report, St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (quadriceps) will have an MRI Wednesday, July 29, to determine the severity of the quadriceps injury he suffered in a loss against the Cincinnati Reds.

Fantasy Tip: Holliday ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) should obviously be avoided in FantasyScore until he can officially return and prove his health in a full game without any setbacks. Mark Reynolds ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) came on to play first base, with Stephen Piscotty ($3,700, 7.4%) moving to the outfield. That could be the setup moving forward if Holliday misses time.

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 18:01:54 -0700

He suffered the injury while running to first base on a grounder during the first inning and was replaced by OF Stephen Piscotty. Holliday will be re-evaluated Thursday, July 30.

Fantasy Tip: Holliday ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) spent six weeks on the disabled list dealing with the same injury earlier this season. He is batting .290 with four home runs and 31 RBIs through 63 games. Check back for further updates on his status.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday resting

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 14:46:25 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday is not in the starting lineup Monday, July 27. OF Stephen Piscotty is starting in left field and hitting sixth against Cincinnati Reds SP Raisel Iglesias.

Fantasy Tip: Piscotty ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has four hits in his first 12 at-bats (.333) for the Cardinals after being called up last week. He's mainly a line-drive hitter that is developing a power stroke, and he can also run a little bit. You can do much worse than Piscotty when searching for an under-the-radar value play at outfield.

Wed, 22 Jul 2015 22:12:37 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (quadriceps) served as the designated hitter for the second straight game Wednesday, July 22, against the Chicago White Sox. He has yet to be cleared to run at full speed yet.

Fantasy Tip: Holliday ($4,900; or 9.8% of cap) had a single in three at-bats. He might not be able to run at full speed, but he had a grand slam Tuesday and is still a fine FantasyScore play.
