Fri, 24 Oct 2003 19:04:34 -0700 Padres.MLB.com's Mike Scarr reports 23-year-old San Diego Padres minor league P Gabe Ribas was named the team's minor league player of the year after he went 17-8 with a 3.29 ERA in 28 starts while splitting time between Single-A Fort Wayne and Lake Elsinore. Ribas, who is more of a control pitcher than a power pitcher, struggled a bit after moving up to Lake Elsinore in the California League, but he adjusted and finished on a strong note.
