Seattle Mariners 3B Kyle Seager has a good chance of starting in the minors if 3B Chone Figgins is named the everyday starting third baseman. Seager has been asked to play other infield positions to increase his versatility, but he'll be competing with INFs Carlos Guillen, Munenori Kawasaki and Luis Rodriguez for a backup job. 3B Alex Liddi is also in the mix.

Seattle Mariners SS Luis Rodriguez (hand) left the game early Thursday, Sept. 22, after being spiked in the bare hand. He had his hand heavily bandaged after he came out of the contest. IF Kyle Seager replaced Rodriguez and is now the only healthy shortstop on roster.

The Seattle Mariners will place SS Brendan Ryan (shoulder) on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained AC join in his left shoulder. SS Luis Rodriguez is expected to be recalled in a corresponding move. The move is retroactive to Aug. 4. IFs Jack Wilson and Rodriguez are expected to fill in at the position.
