Falcons | Needing A Center

Sat, 24 Feb 2001 18:36:57 -0800

Len Pasquarelli reports for the Atlanta Falcons are expected to pursue an offensive center during the off-season. In fact they auditioned former New York Giants OC Brian Williams, who has played just one season in the past three because of eye problems. One free agent who should see a lot of interest on the open market is Panthers OC Frank Garcia. Don't look for Garcia in Atlanta though because they prefer to either find some veteran who will sign a cheaper contract or use one of their youngsters at the position.

Thu, 13 May 1999 08:15:00 -0700

Newsday reports that after going through two days of mini-camp so far, the Giants are optimistic about the upcoming season, but that optimism is guarded. The team is pleased with the two QBs they have, Kent Graham and Kerry Collins, they have a crowded but talented backfield, veteran leadership is back with Brian Williams and Jason Sehorn and they really like the presence of Pete Mitchell at TE. DE Michael Strahan, an outspoken team leader, went on to say "talent isn't the problem. The problem seems to be a little bit of commitment sometimes." He has been concerned about spotty attendance of some players - on both offense and defense - in the voluntary offseason conditioning program.

The AP reports that Giants C Brian Williams began his attempt to comeback from a serious eye injury he suffered two years ago when he showed up at Giants Stadium to begin some off-season workouts. "I guess this a dream come true," Williams said after working out for the first time in a long time at Giants Stadium. "It will take a lot, working out with the guys and getting the motions down and the terminology. My head is rolling, but it's all for good reasons."
