Dodgers | Kemp might prefer signing one-year deals

MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports that the Los Angeles Dodgers have opened discussions on a long-term contract with OF Matt Kemp. However, agent Dave Stewart said his client might prefer to continue signing one-year deals with the team instead. "We've got to figure out if it even makes sense to do a multiyear," Stewart said. "The club is looking for something, the player is looking for something. Sometimes it's difficult to find a meeting of the minds. In that case, we're fine doing it one year at a time."

Dodgers | Billingsley should be ready to throw in January

Updating a previous item, the Los Angeles Times' Dylan Hernandez reports Los Angeles Dodgers SP Chad Billingsley (leg) should be recovered enough from his broken left fibula to begin throwing during the first week of January, according to his agent, former major league pitcher Dave Stewart. "This is supposed to be a six-week process," said Stewart. Billingsley should be able to start rehabilitation in four weeks, although he'll be limited at first to riding a stationary bicycle before being allowed to run.

Updating previous reports, ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick reports the St. Louis Cardinals signed RP Ricardo Rincon (Athletics) to a two-year, $2.9 million contract. "He's excited," said Dave Stewart, Rincon's agent. "St. Louis has a pretty good track record of getting into the playoffs and doing some good things, so he feels really good about this."

The Contra Costa Times reports the talks between the Oakland Athletics and 3B Eric Chavez have paused. "What I would say is that we've finally gotten into negotiations," Chavez's manager Dave Stewart said. "And in negotiations, you're going to hit some snags. We're in a period where I call it a pause. I don't even like to call it a snag."
