That's why we want to find out our options at shortstop behind J.J."

Tue, 08 Jan 2013 18:03:19 -0800 The Detroit Tigers and Chicago Cubs have discussed a trade for SP Rick Porcello, but the Tigers are trying to get the Baltimore Orioles and SS J.J. Hardy involved in the deal. The Tigers like Hardy, and do not feel the Cubs have the necessary components for a straight-up trade between the two sides. Moving Hardy would allow the Orioles to move 3B Manny Machado back to shortstop in 2013, but the deal would reportedly have to bowl over the Orioles to get them interested.
Tue, 08 Jan 2013 14:50:29 -0800 The Chicago Cubs and Detroit Tigers are reportedly discussing a deal that would send SP Rick Porcello to Chicago. The Tigers are trying to get the Baltimore Orioles involved in this deal in order to acquire SS J.J. Hardy, and they don't think the Cubs have the necessary players to make it a two-team trade. In this three-team deal, the Cubs would have to send pitching Baltimore's way. However, the O's probably aren't very motivated to get rid of Hardy unless they are overwhelmed in a trade. Baltimore isn't prepared to move 3B Manny Machado to shortstop this season. The Orioles are also interested in adding Porcello.

Hardy remaining the team's shortstop. Machado is still viewed as the long-term solution at shortstop.
