Orioles | J.J. Hardy gets good news

Tue, 02 Jun 2015 21:29:51 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (oblique) had an MRI Tuesday, June 2, and it came back clean. He is considered day to day.

Fantasy Tip: Hardy missed his second straight game Tuesday. FantasyScore players should avoid Hardy ($3,500; or 7.0% of cap) until he can officially return and prove his health in a full game without any lingering effects of his injury.

Orioles | J.J. Hardy unlikely to play Wednesday

Tue, 02 Jun 2015 15:38:24 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (oblique) is unlikely to play again Wednesday, June 3, according to manager Buck Showalter.

Fantasy Tip: Hardy ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) looks increasingly likely to require a DL stint, depending on the results of his MRI exam tonight. The injury-prone Hardy already missed over 20 games to start the season and missed a similar timeline with an oblique injury four years ago. Prepare for the worst if you own him. Hardy should be left to the waiver wire in shallow mixed leagues.

Orioles | J.J. Hardy going for MRI

Tue, 02 Jun 2015 15:04:42 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (oblique) will undergo an MRI exam for a left oblique problem Tuesday, June 2. Hardy is concerned that he might be out more than a few games, and he missed 27 games with a left oblique strain in 2011 in his first season with Baltimore. Hardy already missed 25 games to start the year with a left shoulder injury. He's hitting only .190 with two home runs and six RBI in 87 plate appearances.

Fantasy Tip: Hardy isn't worth owning, even without the injury, in shallow mixed leagues. Ryan Flaherty ($1,800, 3.6% of cap), who is starting at shortstop tonight, and Everth Cabrera ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) would likely split time at the 6 if Hardy were to go back on the DL. Neither infielder is very attractive on FantasyScore, but Cabrera has slightly more upside as a stolen base threat.

Orioles | J.J. Hardy out of lineup again

Tue, 02 Jun 2015 14:55:59 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (side) is out of the lineup again Tuesday, June 2. 2B Ryan Flaherty is starting at shortstop and hitting eighth in the batting order against Houston Astros SP Collin McHugh.

Fantasy Tip: Hardy could land on the disabled list, depending on what his MRI exam results show. Flaherty ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) and Everth Cabrera ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) would likely split time at the 6 if that were to happen. Flaherty doesn't have much offensive upside and doesn't steal bases, either, making him a weak FantasyScore option.

Orioles | J.J. Hardy worried about injury

Tue, 02 Jun 2015 13:46:29 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (side), who was out of the lineup Monday, June 1, with soreness in his left side, is worried that his injury could keep him out for more than just a few days. He had a similar injury keep him out in 2011. Manager Buck Showalter isn't terming the injury an oblique ailment just yet. The team is taking a cautious approach with him.

Fantasy Tip: Given Hardy's ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) reputation as a slow healer, there might be a good chance he'll need to go back on the disabled list. Stay tuned. Everth Cabrera ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) will likely see the majority of starts at the 6 with Hardy out, but he's a weak shortstop option on FantasyScore.

Orioles | J.J. Hardy dealing with injury

Mon, 01 Jun 2015 15:40:28 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (side) is dealing with soreness in the left side of his body, according to manager Buck Showalter. Hardy is not in the starting lineup against the Houston Astros Monday, June 1.

Fantasy Tip: Everth Cabrera ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) projects to receive the majority of starts at shortstop for the duration of Hardy's absence. However, Cabrera isn't anything more than a flier in daily contests. Check back for an update on the severity of Hardy's injury. Over his 87 at-bats this season, Hardy is slashing just .190/.209/.274, and at this point, his only value is in AL-only leagues.

Orioles | J.J. Hardy back in lineup

Tue, 26 May 2015 11:51:18 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (back) is in the lineup Tuesday, May 26, after leaving the night before with back tightness.

Fantasy Tip: Hardy ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) missed some time recently due to other injuries, so his owners can breathe again. Let him work out the kinks in his back for a game or so before you move him into your lineup.

Orioles | J.J. Hardy injured

Mon, 25 May 2015 13:29:56 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (back) left the game against the Houston Astros on Monday, May 25, with back tightness.

Fantasy Tip: Hardy ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) may need a few days to let the tightness dissipate or this could be a recurring problem. For now, shelve Hardy until more news is announced. Everth Cabrera ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) will see any time at shortstop, most likely.

Orioles | Everth Cabrera in for J.J. Hardy

Sun, 24 May 2015 08:25:29 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS Everth Cabrera will start at shortstop and bat sixth in the order Sunday, May 24, against the Miami Marlins. SS J.J. Hardy will go to the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) is a switch-hitter who slightly favors right-handed pitchers. Cabrera shouldn't be highly owned against Marlins righty Tom Koehler, making him a deep flier in GPP tournaments.

Orioles | J.J. Hardy hitless in debut

Thu, 07 May 2015 20:02:44 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (shoulder) went hitless in four at-bats in his season debut Thursday, May 7.

Fantasy Tip: Hardy ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) has shown decent power from the shortstop position in the past, but some rust is understandable after being sidelined by a shoulder injury. Until he shows signs of swinging the bat well, he can be ignored at FantasyScore.
