Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels (shoulder) is pleased with his progress from left shoulder pain and thinks he could rejoin the rotation after two more rehab outings. He's scheduled to make his next start with Single-A Clearwater Friday, April 11, and wants to pitch five or six innings. He threw 65 pitches in his rehab start over the weekend. Hamels thinks he'll be ready once he's able to reach 90 pitches. Hamels could be on track to return as early as April 21.
Fantasy Tip: Continue to be patient, but if Hamels can return at the end of April, that's a big win for his owners.

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels (shoulder) tossed two innings in a minor league game Thursday, March 27, and he said he felt fine after throwing 20 of his 30 pitches for strikes. "I'm really pleased and really confident, and what I'm able to do now is to truly get spring training in," said Hamels, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday. "Obviously it's a little late, but I feel healthy and I think that's really the key."
Fantasy Tip: Expect Hamels to miss most of April as he recovers and builds arm strength. In the meantime, stash him in a DL spot and add an arm to make up for his absence in your fantasy rotation.

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels (shoulder) tossed a 40-pitch bullpen session Wednesday, March 19, and said he's expected to throw to live hitters during batting practice Saturday, March 22, if everything is fine. "It went really well," Hamels said of his bullpen session. "I'm pleased, being able to build my pitch count, getting the reps I need. I was able to get a lot of pitches out of the stretch, and I introduced the windup, which I haven't done since last year. Getting familiar with that again and being able to build the reps from there, it's obviously a step in the right direction." He'll start on the disabled list and is a week behind schedule right now. Hamels is saying that his upper body strength is at about 90 percent.
Fantasy Tip: Hamels may miss a large chunk of April, but if he doesn't suffer anymore setbacks in his recovery, he remains worthy of going on your roster as a No. 2 starting pitcher, assuming you can stash him in a DL slot until he's back.
