Phillies | Cole Hamels returns to form

Thu, 26 Mar 2015 19:00:40 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels tossed five scoreless innings against the Toronto Blue Jays Thursday, March 26, allowing two hits and three walks while striking out four.

Fantasy Tip: Hamels had been struggling this spring, but he shut down a powerful Toronto lineup Thursday. Despite a 9-9 record last year, he finished last season with an impressive 2.46 ERA and 1.15 WHIP. His win total may be depressed a bit if he stays in Philadelphia, but his ratios and strikeout totals should make him a solid No. 2 starter on fantasy rosters.

Rangers | Texas remains interested in Cole Hamels

Fri, 20 Mar 2015 14:12:32 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels continues to be discussed in trade talks with the Texas Rangers, according to sources. The teams are not close to a deal, though. The Phillies are said to be seeking three good prospects, including a top-flight one, in return for Hamels.

Fantasy Tip: Don't expect Hamels to finish the 2015 season with Philadelphia, and a relocation could be a significant fantasy boost. However, there is no telling when a deal will take place or where he'll go. Hamels remains a strong No. 2 starter for your fake rotation and worth targeting after the top arms come off the board on draft day.

Phillies | Cole Hamels trade not imminent

Tue, 10 Mar 2015 16:32:38 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels doesn't appear to be any closer to being dealt in light of SP Cliff Lee's injury news. Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro doesn't believe there is a lesson to be learned from Lee's injury. "Nope," Amaro told ESPN.com's Jayson Stark, quite succinctly. "Why would it change? No reason to change it."

Fantasy Tip: Hamels remains an SP2 in fantasy leagues, but if he's dealt to a club that can provide him more run support, he could become a fringe SP1.

Yankees | NYY closest on Cole Hamels?

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 01:43:57 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels has been the subject of trade talks, and the New York Yankees appear to have matched up best with the Phillies, according to those in the know.

Fantasy Tip: Hamels is still a desirable pitcher in all league formats, and a move to the Yankees would not decrease Hamels' fantasy value much if at all.

Rangers | Texas could target Cole Hamels

Sat, 07 Mar 2015 14:59:10 -0800

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels could be of interest to the Texas Rangers, depending on the results of SP Yu Darvish's (elbow) second elbow examination.

Fantasy Tip: Hamels' value would take a slight hit moving to the American League. The ballpark factors are pretty similar, and he has thrived in Philly. So he's still a low-end SP1 target if he were to land in Texas.

Red Sox | Cole Hamels unlikely for Boston

Mon, 02 Mar 2015 16:12:25 -0800

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels doesn't appear likely to be dealt to the Boston Red Sox, as there are no signs that point toward any progress in trade talks surrounding Hamels between the two clubs, according to two major league sources. The Phillies have been rumored to covet Red Sox C Blake Swihart and OF Mookie Betts in a package for Hamels. However, Boston is in no rush to swing a trade, and they are unlikely to agree to any trade that involves either Swihart or Betts. Boston is also high on SP Henry Owens.

Fantasy Tip: Hamels' fantasy value would look much better away from the Phillies, but a trade might not happen until closer to the All-Star break now. Regardless, Hamels is one of the more reliable starting pitchers in the league, and he'll keep fantasy ace qualification in Philadelphia to start the season.

Red Sox | BOS has no urgency on Cole Hamels

Fri, 27 Feb 2015 04:22:26 -0800

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels has had trade talks cool with the Boston Red Sox, who feel no urgency to deal the pitcher. The Red Sox do not want to part with either OF Mookie Betts or C Blake Swihart in any deal and the Phillies are interested in those players.

Fantasy Tip: All indications are Hamels opens the season in Philadelphia and stays there, at least until the trading deadline. If Hamels can get past his trade demands and is healthy to pitch, he remains a solid option in most mixed and NL drafts.

Cardinals | Philly driving hard for Carlos Martinez

Thu, 19 Feb 2015 05:46:49 -0800

St. Louis Cardinals SP Carlos Martinez must be included in a trade proposal for Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels before the Phillies will listen. Hamels loves St. Louis, and his wife is from the area.

Fantasy Tip: There is very little chance the Cards let go of Carlos Martinez unless they feel Adam Wainwright (elbow) or Michael Wacha (shoulder) are compromised for the 2015 season. Martinez has the inside track to win their final rotation spot, and he's a SP4 target in fantasy.

Phillies | Cole Hamels wants to be dealt

Wed, 18 Feb 2015 13:29:40 -0800

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels said he just wants to win Wednesday, Feb. 18, and he knows that is not going to happen with the Phillies. "I want to be in the playoffs every year. That's where you make a name for yourself. It's not about the Cy Young awards and MVP awards. It's about winning championships. You want to be in a place where you have a chance to win."

Fantasy Tip: Hamels has been involved in a number of trade rumors, and landing on a winning team would skyrocket his fantasy stock. Currently, Hamels is a reliable No. 2 arm for your fake team because of his solid ratios and strikeout potential.

Phillies | Cole Hamels' value at its peak

Mon, 16 Feb 2015 16:25:32 -0800

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels should be dealt prior to the season, in the opinion of Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Bob Ford. The Phillies have reportedly turned down offers from four teams, but Ford argues Hamels' value will never be higher. Hamels is coming off of a season in which he won only nine games, but his 2.46 ERA indicates he pitched well.

Fantasy Tip: Hamels is a low-end SP1 in deep leagues or high-end SP2, and it's hard to imagine a trade hurting his value. There are very few ballparks that are less favorable for keeping flyballs in than Citizens Bank Park, and a deal to a team that can provide him more run support would help him in the wins category. The rest of the veteran southpaw's sterling numbers should remain strong regardless of what club he pitches for this season.
