St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright (elbow) visited with the team's medical staff last Friday, and the team isn't worried that his elbow will be a long-term problem. The team plans to have Wainwright continue as normal with his offseason workouts, which will include mainly rest. The Cardinals are expected to cut back on Wainwright's spring workload to compensate for his heavy innings workload the last two years.

St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright may have his workouts and/or innings reduced before the 2015 season, as the team fears this may be contributing to his late-season struggles. "Clearly in Adam's case being a veteran and his status on the team, we haven't really had to pull the reins on him as much as we have with younger pitchers. But having said that, given everything he has done over the last couple years and taking that aggregate sense, yes, we probably do need to look at that this offseason," general manager John Mozeliak said.

St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright is prepared to start a potential Game 5 of the National League Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday, Oct. 9, but the team is also readying SP Lance Lynn for the start because of concerns about Wainwright's health. Wainwright felt fine after a side session Monday, Oct. 6, but there have been concerns about his right arm after he labored through his outing in Game 1. He gave up six runs and 11 hits in just 4 1/3 innings, his shortest start of the year. "He's just been grinding," manager Mike Matheny said. "And when you've been grinding, there are just days where you can't get it right. He was having trouble that Game 1. He's thrown a lot of innings. He's had a lot of work. But that's what your ace does." No pitcher in baseball has thrown more innings since the start of 2013 than Wainwright.
