Braves | Jonny Gomes expected to be dealt

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 11:41:56 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Jonny Gomes is expected to be dealt before the trade deadline Friday, July 31, and there are a few teams interested in him, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) could be a potential AL-only option if he is dealt to an American League team, but he will enter a platoon, at best. He has a career .275/.378/.480 slash line against lefties, which is why he is a potential trade candidate. He is unlikely to see regular at-bats. You'll want to keep an eye on Gomes for FantasyScore purposes, though.

Braves | Jonny Gomes in Tuesday lineup

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 13:34:14 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Jonny Gomes is in the starting lineup Tuesday, July 28, against the Baltimore Orioles.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has platooned with Eury Perez ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) in left field, but he has a .181 average against right-handed pitchers. Stay away from this if at all possible, as Perez (.264 in July) is the stronger option.

Braves | Atlanta listening on certain players

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 16:18:20 -0700

Atlanta Braves C A.J. Pierzynski, OF Jonny Gomes and RP Jim Johnson are all available in trades at the deadline this week. The Atlanta Braves are in listening mode, and all three of these players are on cheap one-year deals.

Fantasy Tip: While Pierzynski ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) and Johnson currently have prominent roles with the Braves and would lose considerable fantasy value in any trades, Gomes ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is unlikely to see his already weak value change much in a trade. Keep Arodys Vizcaino's name in your back pocket if you are searching for saves this week, as he could be in line to take the closer's role if Johnson leaves town.

Braves | ATL shopping three players

Fri, 24 Jul 2015 17:10:17 -0700

Atlanta Braves OFs Jonny Gomes and Cameron Maybin and RP Jim Johnson could be moved by the team before the trade deadline.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has struggled at the plate this season, batting .203 with four home runs and 13 RBIs through 62 games entering play Friday, July 24. On the other hand, Maybin ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) is enjoying arguably the best season of his career, hitting .283 with eight homers, 44 RBIs and 16 steals through 83 contests. Johnson is 2-3 with a 2.15 ERA and eight saves since replacing Jason Grilli as the Braves' closer.

Sat, 18 Jul 2015 12:03:19 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Jonny Gomes will bat cleanup and start in left field against Chicago Cubs SP Jon Lester Saturday, July 18.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is a lifetime .333 hitter (5-for-15) against Lester, with a home run and three RBIs. He should be viewed as a low-end flier for FantasyScore contests Saturday.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has a .420 on-base percentage against southpaws this season, and he has historically had success against lefties. Braves | Kelly Johnson out of the lineup

Sun, 28 Jun 2015 08:06:08 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Kelly Johnson is not in the starting lineup against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke Sunday, June 28. OF Jonny Gomes will start in left field and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) probably is sitting out because the team is facing a left-handed pitcher. Gomes ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has only one hit in his last eight games and is not the best option for owners on FantasyScore.

Braves | Jonny Gomes has sore quad

Thu, 18 Jun 2015 15:58:06 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Jonny Gomes (quadriceps) has a sore right quadriceps, however it is not considered serious. Gomes was not in the starting lineup against the Boston Red Sox Thursday, June 18.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is struggling this season with a .210/.294/.328 slash line and just 18 runs, three home runs and 11 RBI over 136 plate appearances. The right-handed hitter has been better against lefties, though, with a respectable .271/.432/.406 slash line. FantasyScore players should limit their exposure to when Gomes faces a favorable southpaw.
