Chicago Cubs SP Edwin Jackson made 50 pitches in his Cactus League outing Friday, March 7, and he decided to only throw fastballs. He apparently did not tell manager Rick Renteria or pitching coach Chris Bosio of his intentions, and the two planned to sit down with him to discuss. "I think maybe, as we talk about fastball command, maybe he was thinking, 'I'm going to try to hit the spots," Renteria said. "He got into a little trouble yesterday and he had some elevated pitches and some pulled pitches."

Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum doesn't have any intentions of removing SP Edwin Jackson from the starting rotation despite a 1-7 record and a 6.11 ERA this year. "No, we're going to stick with him," Sveum said. "It's a long season. There's still another 20-plus starts here to fix this and get it going."
Fantasy Tip: Jackson's four-year deal gives him more rope to stay in the starting rotation, but Sveum effectively challenged Jackson to make some adjustments in order to become more successful. He shouldn't be relied on in shallow leagues and should probably be benched, if not dropped outright, in deep mixed leagues right now.
