Fri, 01 Jun 2007 00:04:01 -0700 The St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Heather Ratcliffe reports Mike Shannon's Steaks and Seafood, a restaurant in downtown St. Louis where RP Josh Hancock was drinking the night of his death, has been cleared of any wrongdoing by state liquor commissioners.
Thu, 24 May 2007 23:06:55 -0700 The St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Heather Ratcliffe and Bill Bryan report the father of deceased St. Louis Cardinals RP Josh Hancock has filed a wrongful-death lawsuit, claiming Mike Shannon's Steaks and Seafood bartenders served Hancock when he was drunk. The suit seeks unspecified damages "over $25,000" from Mike Shannon's, the owner and driver of a parked tow truck that Hancock hit, and the driver of a car the wrecker had stopped to help.
Thu, 24 May 2007 13:11:35 -0700 The Associated Press reports Dean Hancock, father of deceased RP Josh Hancock, is suing Mike Shannon, longtime St. Louis Cardinals broadcaster who owns the restaurant at which Josh Hancock became inebriated, allegedly resulting in the crash that killed him. Other defendants include Patricia Shannon Van Matre, the restaurant manager and Shannon's daughter; Eddie's Towing; tow truck driver Jacob Edward Hargrove, whose tow truck was struck by Hancock's car; and Justin Tolar, whom Hargrove was assisting. The lawsuit claims the restaurant was negligent in providing Hancock with too many drinks; meanwhile, the lawsuit further claims Tolar was negligent in not maneuvering his car off the freeway, and Hargrove was negligent for not clearing the highway in the 15 minutes he was assisting Tolar.
Sat, 05 May 2007 03:32:52 -0700 The St. Louis Cardinals have banned alcohol from the clubhouse, five days after the alcohol-related death of RP Josh Hancock, according to the Associated Press. General manager Walt Jocketty did not consult players before making the decision, but manager Tony La Russa said the move was largely symbolic, since players don't drink much in the clubhouse anyway.
Fri, 04 May 2007 08:31:59 -0700 Kim Bell, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports former St. Louis Cardinals RP Josh Hancock was legally drunk at the time of his fatal car accident Sunday, April 29. Hancock had a blood-alcohol level of 0.157 percent, which is almost twice the legal limit of 0.08.
Mon, 30 Apr 2007 23:33:03 -0700 The St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Joe Strauss and Jake Wagman are reporting St. Louis Cardinals RP Josh Hancock was in a potentially serious traffic accident less than three days before the one that took his life Sunday, April 29, according to police reports. Hancock walked away from the April 26 crash uninjured, but he was late for the team's afternoon game a few hours later. The club and several teammates said he had overslept. But sources say he was late because he was hung over.

Fallstrom reports the St. Louis Cardinals are going to wear No. 32 patches on their sleeves the rest of the season to honor teammate RP Josh Hancock, who was killed in a car crash early Sunday, April 29. There will also be a memorial for the bullpen. The team plans to charter a plane to the funeral in Tupelo, Ms., scheduled for Thursday, May 3.
Sun, 29 Apr 2007 08:46:40 -0700 Updating an earlier report, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports St. Louis Cardinals reliever Josh Hancock crashed into the rear of a tow truck that was parked in the far left westbound lane of Highway 40 (Interstate 64) shortly after 12:30 a.m. The tow truck driver, who was seated in the vehicle at the time, was unhurt. The tow truck driver told police that his emergency lights were on, and that he honked his horn when he saw the Explorer approaching in his rear view mirror, but that the Explorer didn't slow down or swerve to avoid the collision.
