Chicago Cubs OF David DeJesus said his timing was off slightly when he hit .220 in spring training. "It pretty much came down to timing," DeJesus said. "It's like, 'When do I start loading off the pitcher?' At the end of spring training, I felt I was getting more confident starting at the right time. Sometimes I'd be late, and my foot is up in the air and the ball is already coming. It's always a process - that's the way the game is."

Chicago Cubs OF Alfonso Soriano could be the team's leadoff hitter this season, according to manager Dale Sveum. Soriano hasn't hit leadoff since July of 2009. "During the season a lot of things can come up to where, yeah, it can happen," said Sveum, who has Soriano leading off in the intrasquad game Friday, March 2. "You really want Soriano just to be in an RBI spot, that's what you really want." OF David DeJesus is the other candidate to hit leadoff.
