Unrestricted free-agent WR Marvin Harrison (Colts) was ordered to surrender his handgun to police after a traffic stop Wednesday, June 16, and gun will be tested to see if it matches the casings involved in a shooting 2008, sources told Shaun Assael. Harrison has been a person of interest during the investigation of the shooting. The patrolman thought he had probable cause to search Harrison's car after Harrison produced a gun permit but said he did not have a gun after the patrolman saw Harrison place what appeared to be a weapon in the seat console in his car, according to sources.

Mike Chappell, of the Indianapolis Star, reports Indianapolis Colts president Bill Polian said the team would likely sign a veteran wide receiver to fill in for WR Anthony Gonzalez (knee), who is expected to miss up to six weeks with a knee injury. The Colts will not re-sign free-agent WR Marvin Harrison. Polian said, "It really is counterproductive to try to bring a player in who has not had any training camp, not had any offseason. That's especially true of someone at Marvin's age. It's very, very difficult to do and you're probably inviting injury upon injury."

It has been odd not to see No. 88 on the field for many of the team's long-time players. "I'm going to miss him," QB Peyton Manning said. Irsay insisted late Monday, Feb. 23, that Tom Condon, Harrison's agent, was "premature" earlier in the day when he said the Colts had agreed to release Harrison. Condon said Harrison had requested the release after declining the team's attempt to restructure his contract.
