The UFL's Omaha Nighthawks have signed unrestricted free-agent RB Maurice Clarett (Broncos), according to Aaron Wilson, of NationalFootballPost.com. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Bob Glauber, of Newsday, reports former NFL RB Maurice Clarett (Broncos), who is serving 3 1/2 years in prison on robbery and illegal weapons charges, would like to play football again when he gets out of prison. Clarett, who blogs from prison, said he cannot accept how things ended, noted his mind is right and said his life is in order. He will theoretically be freed in time for the 2010 season.

The Associated Press reports former NFL RB Maurice Clarett has been transferred to a single cell at the Toledo Correctional Institution to finish out the remainder of his sentence. Clarett will not be isolated from other inmates and will be able to exercise and eat with others. A judge sentenced Clarett to at least 3 1/2 years in prison on charges of aggravated robbery and carrying a concealed weapon.

Updating an ongoing story, ESPNews reports former NFL RB Maurice Clarett was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison Monday, Sept. 18, and he will have to serve at least 42 months behind bars. The verdict covers both the five counts of weapons charges Clarett was indicted on Thursday, Sept. 7, and the robbery and concealed weapon charges from earlier in the year.

NBC4i.com reports former NFL RB Maurice Clarett has been indicted on five counts of weapons charges Thursday, Sept. 7, by a Franklin County grand jury. The charges are from Clarett's August arrest where he is accused of leading police on a shor chase. Franklin County prosecutor Ron O'Brien's office said Clarett was indicted on five counts and faces third- and fourth-degree weapons and fleeing offense with one-year firearm specifications. ESPN.com reports former NFL RB Maurice Clarett has ties to an alleged member of an Israeli crime organization, according to ESPN. Clarett got involved in the organization shortly after leaving Ohio State and Clarett's attorney said Clarett may have been in possession of firearms during his arrest last week to protect himself against mob activity. Nick Mango, Clarett's attorney, said his client has repeatedly received death threats over the past year but that the cryptic postcard sent last week has him wondering about Clarett's ties to an alleged mob enforcer. A rapper friend of Clarett's introduced the running back to Hai Waknine in Los Angeles. Waknine is a convicted felon who prosecutors believe is a part of the Israeli crime organization, The Jerusalem Group. Waknine became Clarett's sponsor and set him up with cash, a BMW, bodyguards, drivers and beachfront lodging in Malibu with the understanding that he would be reimbursed with 60 percent of Clarett's rookie contract. When Clarett was cut by the Denver Broncos, Waknine cut off Clarett financially. After Clarett's latest arrest, an anonymous phone call alerted Clarett's attorneys to his ties with Waknine and they grew more suspicious when the threatening postcard arrived, which may have come from Waknine.

The Associated Press reports former NFL RB Maurice Clarett (Broncos) will likely be issued a gag order by the judge handling his robbery case. Judge David Fais said, "This case will be tried in the courtroom and not in some newspaper or radio station or TV station or in some national publication." Assistant prosecutor Doug Stead requested the order after accusing the defense attorney of talking to reporters too much.

The Associated Press reports former NFL RB Maurice Clarett (Broncos) received a typewritten, "cryptic" threat at the law office that is representing him, according to his attorney Michael Hoague. The message was sent from Los Angeles and received Monday, Aug. 14. It was typed on a piece of paper, cut out and taped on a postcard. Hoague added, "We don't know quite what to make of it. It's very cryptic."

The Associated Press reports former NFL RB Maurice Clarett was ordered Friday, Aug. 11, to have a mental health evaluation after a highway chase and violent struggle with police who caught him with four loaded guns. Judge David Fais delayed the trial set to begin Monday, Aug. 14, on previous charges accusing the player of holding up two people outside a bar on New Year's Day. "I clearly understand everything, and I don't know why we have to drag this thing out," said Clarett, who scoffed, smiled and rolled his head back when Fais ordered the evaluation. Clarett, who wrote a few notes to his attorneys with his hands cuffed, said he was ready to go to trial. Fais also revoked Clarett's $1.1 million bond on the charges, meaning Clarett figures to remain in jail until the new trial starts Sept. 18.

The Associated Press reports a judge has set bail for former NFL RB Maurice Clarett at $5 million. Following his bizarre and violent encounter with police the day before, prosecutors had asked a judge to hold Clarett on at least $1 million bond. "We feel he's a threat to the community," assistant prosecutor Chris Brown said. His lawyer, Nick Mango, called the $5 million bond excessive, adding that his client would not likely be able to post it. Prosecutors initially asked the judge to hold Clarett without bond, in part because he had been driving just a few blocks from the home of a woman scheduled to testify against him in his robbery trial, which starts Monday, Aug. 14. Police said more charges are possible, and federal agents said they are eyeing whether Clarett violated federal gun laws that prohibit having a firearm while under indictment.
