Yankees | Reggie Jackson serving as guest instructor

Former MLB OF Reggie Jackson will serve as a guest instructor for the New York Yankees this week, according to Wallace Matthews of ESPNNewYork.com. Jackson, who normally joins the club in February, arrived later than usual this season because he was recovering from back surgery to repair disk and verterbrae damage.

King III, of the New York Post, reports former MLB OF Reggie Jackson has been working with New York Yankees OF Austin Jackson during Spring Training and has nothing but good things to say about him. "He is a player, dude," Jackson said. "He is still learning." Austin Jackson is likely to begin the year at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Yankees | Jackson could be banned from team's dugout

Mark Feinsand, of the New York Daily News, reports former New York Yankees outfielder Reggie Jackson could be banned from sitting in the dugout during spring training games. The recommendation for Jackson being banned likely stems from the team's bench-clearing brawl Wednesday, March 12, although it is unsure what role he had in the incident.

The Associated Press reports Oakland Athletics DH Frank Thomas is 8-for-19 with three homers and five RBI in his career against Minnesota Twins SP Johan Santana. Thomas now has 50 homers and 132 RBI in 171 career games against Minnesota, his most against any opponent and the second-most hit by one player against the Twins behind Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson (51).

Reds | Griffey pinch-hits Monday

Mark Sheldon, of Reds.MLB.com, reports Cincinnati Reds CF Ken Griffey Jr. (toe) pinch-hit in the eighth inning Monday, Sept. 25, against the Chicago Cubs. Griffey hit a three-run home run to help the Reds defeat the Cubs 5-4. The home run was the 563rd of Griffey's career, tying him with Reggie Jackson for 10th on the all-time list.

Updating a previous item, Reds.MLB.com's Mark Sheldon reports Cincinnati Reds OF Ken Griffey Jr. hit the 549th home run of his career Sunday, June 25, and passed Mike Schmidt to take sole possession of 11th place on the career home run list. Griffey, who has hit 13 home runs this season, needs to hit 14 more to reach 563 homers to tie Reggie Jackson for 10th place on the career list.

MLB | Reggie Jackson Injured in Car Accident

The Associated Press reports Hall of Fame OF Reggie Jackson was taken to the hospital with minor injuries after his sport utility vehicle was rear-ended by another SUV Friday night. Jackson's vehicle was stopped Friday night when an SUV "traveling at a high rate of speed" hit him from behind, Tampa police spokesman Joe Durkin said Saturday. Both vehicles flipped. Jackson, 58, was treated and released from the hospital, Durkin said. The other driver was in critical condition when he was brought to the hospital, Durkin said. The hospital didn't release information on him on Saturday. Durkin said it wasn't clear how fast the other vehicle was going or whether alcohol was involved. But he said Jackson didn't appear to be at fault.

Athletics | Reggie Jackson Unable to Buy Team

Josh Dubow, of the Associated Press, reports Hall of Famer and former Oakland Athletics OF Reggie Jackson had put together an ownership group willing to pay $25 million more than the amount slated for the purchase of the franchise by Los Angeles real estate developer Lewis Wolff, but the offer apparently came after a commitment had already been made to Wolff. "Reggie told me he'd buy the team for $25 million more," said Athletics co-owner Steve Schott. "But I don't go chasing the last dollar. I have an obligation to the contract."
