According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Cleveland Browns head coach Butch Davis said this off-season is kind of a make-or-break time for RB Ben Gay. Davis said Gay's biggest challenge will be the maturity aspect of learning, noting his hunger will need to be high to get a bigger piece of the offensive action. Davis said if Gay comes through, it's like hitting a home run. If he doesn't, the team doesn't lose anything.

Updating an earlier story, the Plain Dealer reports in addition to missing this week's game, Cleveland Browns RB James Jackson (ankle) may miss the rest of the season. "It's probably like it was a couple of weeks ago the very first time he injured it," coach Butch Davis said yesterday. "He took a severe shot and a sprain, and we'll see. They've got him in a boot-walker and they'll address it every single day. He took a tremendous amount of treatment [yesterday and the day before]." With Jackson out Jamel White and Ben Gay will carry the load and see some action at H-back too if Aaron Shea can't play Sunday.

Patrick McManamon reports for the Beacon Journal the Cleveland Browns unveiled a new short-yardage QB when they put S Scott Frost under center for two plays. He ran the option, which he said he can run in his sleep. He pitched to Ben Gay for a 6-yard gain the first time, but was stopped for a 1-yard gain the second time. "I doubt you'll see it again," Frost said. "We saw some things in their defense that we thought we could get away with it." He played some tight end and he had two passes thrown his way.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports RB Ben Gay's stories were lost in the shuffle this week with all of the other legal problems Browns' players have run into. Gay said he was dealing drugs as recently as a year ago, that he was in a gang-related shootout in Kansas and that there was a period in his life he needed to drink to stop his hands from shaking. Head coach Butch Davis said the Browns are trying to find out how much truth there is to it, and it's just another area of things they're looking into.
