MLB.com's Danny Wild reports six Arizona Fall League players are finalists for the Dernell Stenson Sportsmanship Award. Tampa Bay Rays C Nevin Ashley, Los Angeles Dodgers 1B Russ Mitchell, St. Louis Cardinals 2B Daniel Descalso, Cleveland Indians C Matt McBride, Pittsburgh Pirates SS Chase D'Arnaud and Florida Marlins OF Bryan Petersen are the finalists.

Phillies | Donald wins Stenson Award

Lisa Winston, of MLB.com, reports Philadelphia Phillies SS Jason Donald won the 2008 Dernell Stenson Sportsmanship Award in the Arizona Fall League. The award has been given annually to the league's player who best exemplifies unselfishness, hard work and leadership.

MLB | Man convicted of killing Reds' prospect sentenced to life

The Associated Press reports Reginald Riddle, the man convicted of killing Cincinnati Reds prospect OF Dernell Stenson, has been sentenced to life in prison. A judge decided Stenson would be eligible for parole after 25 years.

Jonathan Mayo, of MLB.com, reports Tampa Bay Devil Rays IF Ben Zobrist was named a finalist for the Stenson Award, which goes to the AFL player who exemplifies the way the game was meant to be played. The award is named for the former Cincinnati Reds farmhand, Dernell Stenson, who was slain in Chandler, Ariz., during the 2003 AFL season.

The Cincinnati Enquirer's John Fay reports Kobe Stenson, the 4-year-old son of the late Cincinnati Reds OF Dernell Stenson, will throw out the first pitch at the Hall of Fame game May 15. Outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. was going to meet Kobe after arranging with the Hall of Fame to have Kobe throw out the first pitch.

Reds | Man Pleads Guilty in Stenson's Murder

The Associated Press reports one of the two men accused in the kidnapping and murder of Cincinnati Reds OF Dernell Stenson plead guilty to first-degree murder charges. Reginald Riddle, 21, agreed to the plea Thursday to avoid a possible death sentence. He agreed to testify in the trial of his co-defendant, David Griffith, 22, at his September trial. Riddle faces 25 years to life in prison, with or without the possibility of parole, when he is sentenced after Griffith's trial. Griffith still faces capital murder charges.

Reds | Robbery Tied To Stenson's Death

The Cincinnati Post's Marc Lancaster reports robbery was the motive behind the slaying of Cincinnati Reds OF Dernell Stenson last November, police in Chandler, Ariz., have concluded. Detectives determined the two men accused of killing Stenson, Reginald Riddle of Illinois and David Griffith of Arizona's Salt River Indian Reservation, had no ties to a former girlfriend of Stenson's who had threatened the player shortly before his death.

The Associated Press reports police are ruling out a relationship between the ex-girlfriend of slain Cincinnati Reds player Dernell Stenson and the suspects in his death. Police say Jennifer Gaddis, Stenson's ex, remains an investigative lead, but the November robbery that led to Stenson's death appears to have been a random act.

Reds | Death Penalty Sought in Stenson Case

The Associated Press reports Deputy Maricopa County Attorney Catherine Hughes said in court Tuesday, Jan. 6, that prosecutors had filed paperwork to seek the death penalty against Reginald Riddle, 19. She said they intend to do the same for David Griffith, 20. Both are charged with first-degree murder of Cincinnati Reds OF Dernell Stenson.
