"I want to stay focused and be on the field, if not on offense at least on special teams," Stith said Thursday afternoon. Stith practiced Wednesday, and Thursday afternoon said he didn't believe the swelling in his knee was significant enough to keep him out Sunday.

Updating an earlier story, Colts.com reports Indianapolis Colts backup RB Shyrone Stith (knee) underwent an MRI. Coach Tony Dungy said the MRI revealed no serious damage. Stith is expected to miss Saturday's pre-season game, Dungy said. "It's just a matter of soreness with him," Dungy said.

Jacksonville.com reports that those who followed Mack in the preseason were not surprised based on his performance in the final preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys when he reeled a 49-yard TD. The team felt confident enough in him that they released RB Shyrone Stith. Mack also felt with injured RB Fred Taylor's (groin) history, he would eventually be called upon to play.

The Associated Press reports the Jacksonville Jaguars held WR Keenan McCardell (groin) and RB Shyrone Stith (concussion) out of the afternoon practice with the New Orleans Saints on Friday. DL Gary Walker tweaked his ankle, but he was able to participate in most of practice. Backup QB Jamie Martin twisted his ankle and sat out the end of the afternoon practice session.

As an update to previous reports, the Florida Times-Union reports Jacksonville Jaguars rookie free agent RB Elvis Joseph has continued to impress Jaguars coaches so much during mini-camps and workouts that he could make backups Shyrone Stith and Stacey Mack expendable.

The Orlando Sentinel reports the Jacksonville Jaguars are in the market for a running back to serve as the backup to Fred Taylor this season. Because Taylor has missed considerable amounts of playing time the past two years, the team is concerned about their depth at the position. Right now, only Shyrone Stith and Stacey Mack are on roster but neither player is suited to serve as a feature back should something happen to Taylor.

Coughlin, who named RB Shyrone Stith, DE Rob Meier and ST Shad Criss as playing well, said it was because the team had a huge lead over the Browns rather than because the team's chances of post-season play were slim.
