Baltimore Orioles legendary SS Cal Ripken Jr. believes C Matt Wieters will bounce back in 2011, according to Matt Vensel of The Baltimore Sun. "He's learned the pitching staff and he understands them from the defensive side. But offensively, he now has a lineup that has more protection throughout it," Ripken said. Wieters is hitting .357 this spring.

Former Baltimore Orioles IF Cal Ripken Jr. is exploring the possibility of joining the team as a part-time adviser, reports The Associated Press. Ripken has been meeting on a regular basis with Orioles owner Peter Angelos and president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail. Ripken is willing to get back in the game before his son graduates high school if they are able to come up with a plan that would allow him to serve the team while remaining dedicated to his family.

As part of the deal, the team will relocate to Port Charlotte, Fla., for the 2009 season. This will be the third minor league franchise acquired by Ripken Baseball, which also owns the Aberdeen IronBirds and the Augusta GreenJackets.
