Nick Eatman, of DallasCowboys.com, reports Dallas Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells said Thursday, Aug. 4, that he could possibly go into the regular season without a true fullback on the roster. If that happens, expect the Cowboys to not only use more tight ends in a lead-blocking role, but possibly keep more of their talented running backs on the roster. Parcells might have eased the problem a bit by permanently moving RB Erik Bickerstaff to fullback, where he will compete with FBs Darian Barnes and Lousaka Polite. But clearly, the coach hasn't been too impressed with what he has seen from his fullbacks so far in camp, especially their pass-catching abilities.

"He's kind of an in-between guy between tailback and fullback," head coach Bill Parcells said. "I'm not sure where he's gonna wind up. It depends on how we sort out the tailback position. He could wind up being a fullback."

Dallas Cowboys RB Erik Bickerstaff (Achilles') will miss the entire 2004 season with a torn Achilles' tendon, according to Nick Eatman of DallasCowboys.com. Bickerstaff, who had surgery on Friday, June 11, and will be officially placed on injured reserve this week, tore his Achilles' tendon during a routine carry in practice last week.

The Dallas Cowboys' running game has not been productive yardage-wise, even in the wins, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers took advantage of it with their speed off the edge during the Sunday, Oct. 26, game. Cowboys RB Troy Hambrick did not have much of a chance to gain yards, but as head coach Bill Parcells said "You can't make him something he is not." There is little help out there, so it's not like a street free agent will make a big difference. If rookie RB Erik Bickerstaff cannot help, then he should be placed on the practice squad, or given a chance in a game.
