Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon has used OF B.J. Upton in the No. 2 spot in the batting order for each of the team's last two games and plans on keeping him there for a while. "He looked good right there," Maddon said. "It's something I've been thinking about, we've talked about since spring training. Just talked about maybe the right time to try to get it done. ... Maybe it's the right time; we'll find out."

The Tampa Bay Rays reinstated OF B.J. Upton (back) from the 15-day disabled list Friday, April 20, and optioned C Stephen Vogt to Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move. Upton went 3-for-21 in seven minor league rehab games.

Tampa Bay Rays OF B.J. Upton (back) is expected to be activated from the 15-day disabled list before the team's game Friday, April 20. Upton played in both games of a doubleheader for Double-A Montgomery Wednesday, April 18, and flew to Tampa after the games. There had been speculation Upton could return to the lineup Thursday, April 19.
