Blue Jays | Melvin Upton starting vs. former club |
Wed, 27 Jul 2016 07:52:42 -0700
Toronto Blue Jays OF Melvin Upton Jr. is starting in left field and batting fourth against San Diego Padres SP Luis Perdomo Wednesday, July 27. Blue Jays OF Michael Saunders is not in the starting lineup Wednesday.
Fantasy Tip: Upton is having a nice season, and now he's going to see consistent playing time in the heart of a potent lineup. Upton could see a few less at-bats with Toronto, but it shouldn't hinder his five-category upside going forward. Sub out Saunders where you can in seasonal leagues Wednesday. There's enough playing time for both Saunders and Upton to remain solid fantasy assets.

Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez, 19, is 2-1 with a 3.06 ERA in six starts at Rookie League Bluefield. He has 26 K's in 32 1/3 innings. It'll be a couple of years before he's on the fantasy radar.

Padres | SD to pay much of Melvin Upton's salary |
Tue, 26 Jul 2016 06:34:58 -0700
Updating an earlier report, San Diego Padres OF Melvin Upton Jr. is part of an agreement to the Toronto Blue Jays, and the Padres will pay much of the $22 million owed to Upton.
Fantasy Tip: Alex Dickerson will benefit most from the move initially. Jon Jay (forearm) is due back in a few weeks, but he, too, has been rumored to be on the trade block. Manuel Margot could factor into the equation in September. The 21-year-old has a .306-4-37 line with 24 steals at Class AAA El Paso. He's worth watching for NL-only usage. Dickerson is hitting .280 with four homers in 75 at-bats, and he's worth grabbing in NL-only formats. Upton's value will be predicated on the amount of playing time he has in a loaded Blue Jays lineup. If he snatches the majority of time in center, he'll have a lot of upside in a better lineup and ballpark. He's a low-end mixed leaguer, but his 20 steals may not grow too much in that lineup.
