Atlanta Braves 3B Juan Francisco will make his debut with the team at third base Saturday, April 7, in the team's second game of the season. OF Matt Diaz started in left field and OF Martin Prado received the start at the hot corner Thursday, April 5. Francisco is slated to play third against right-handed pitchers and against some lefties. He hit .343 (72-for-210) with 30 extra-base hits (10 homers) against righties at Class AAA last year with the Cincinnati Reds.

Atlanta Braves OF Matt Diaz is focused on hitting the ball the other way this spring, as he's developed a pull-happy tendency in the past few seasons. He's hitting just .185 (5-for-27) this spring, but he hit a home run Thursday, March 15.

Atlanta Braves OF Matt Diaz slimmed down during the offseason after hitting no home runs and slugging .323 in 251 at-bats for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Atlanta Braves in 2011. This winter, he took a less-is-more approach. "I did more power lifting and that stuff because in my mind, (Pittsburgh) is a big field and I wanted to add some more pop," Diaz said of his strategy a year ago. "But it just absolutely backfired. I wasn't free and easy with my swing. I didn't have hand speed, which leads to power. I was strong in the weight room, but had no bat speed."
