Fri, 31 May 2013 06:03:48 -0700 Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning has been working with RB Montee Ball after organized team activities and said Ball has been learning the playbook. Manning said the team will be counting on Ball a lot this season. "We're just kind of going through plays, going through games, getting him comfortable hearing audibles at the line of scrimmage. Because we are going to count on him in a big way this year," Manning said. "He's a rookie, but [head coach John Fox] isn't going to bring him along slowly." Fantasy Tip: It is pretty clear that Ball likely will be the team's starting running back this season. It is smart of Ball to work with Manning this offseason because it will allow him to learn the different things Manning does before the snap. Ball should be seen as a No. 2 fantasy running back this season or a weekly option for the flex position.
Thu, 30 May 2013 05:58:06 -0700 Denver Broncos WR Eric Decker said QB Peyton Manning has more "zip" on his passes this year. "I think (the ball) coming to you quicker can be his reads and comfort level with the receivers, too," Decker said. "But I think some of those throws that he fits in the holes, you feel a little more zip on it and he is getting it to you quicker." Fantasy Tip: The question has always been whether Manning could ever regain enough arm strength to throw deep balls and deliver the ball quickly enough in the open windows. This is a good sign.
Tue, 28 May 2013 06:39:53 -0700 Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning said he feels more comfortable than he did last year. "Not that I feel as comfortable as I did in my eighth year in Indianapolis, but it's a heck of a lot more comfortable than I was last year," Manning said.
Tue, 21 May 2013 09:36:38 -0700 Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning already feels like he has some chemistry with WR Wes Welker. "There's certain guys you just feel like you have timing with right away," Manning said. "He's a guy that has a great feel for how to get open, and understands route concepts and, of course, he played in such a sophisticated offense there in New England, so he's a smart player." The Broncos used three-receiver sets 64 percent of the time last year, but expect that to increase dramatically as they look to create mismatches in the opposing defenses. Fantasy Tip: This is good news for the Broncos, but for those in point-per-reception leagues, don't expect Welker to add 100-plus catches again with Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker in the picture. Welker should still be very productive, but he may no longer be a WR1 in those formats.
Tue, 21 May 2013 09:28:44 -0700 Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker knows that with WRs Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker in the picture on his new team, he won't be catching as many passes like he did in his career with the New England Patriots. "If I have to catch 112 balls, that probably means we're in trouble," Welker said. During organized team activities Monday, May 20, QB Peyton Manning showed excellent chemistry with Thomas and Decker, but he also involved Welker some. Welker is on board with having a smaller workload, but Manning knows the benefit of adding Welker to the offense. "He's just been an extremely difficult guy to cover one-on-one, and then you can tell by watching him on film - he's an extremely smart player," Manning said. "He has an excellent feel for zone coverage. This is just the beginning stages of him getting comfortable in this offense, and he and I getting on the same page." Fantasy Tip: Wide receiver targets in Denver this year will be tough to predict, especially at this juncture. They figure to air it out plenty, and all three wideouts will be valuable for fantasy purposes, but it might be a week-to-week difference on which receiver busts out based on matchups.
Mon, 20 May 2013 16:48:26 -0700 Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning praised free-agent CB Charles Woodson, saying he would like to have him join the team. "We're always looking to add great players," Manning said. "That has been pretty evident since the time I've been here that management is always looking to add excellent football players through the draft or via free agency. I had a chance to visit with Charles when he was here last week and certainly, that'd be a great addition to our team. I know there is the business side of it that comes into play, but there's no question that any time you can add good football players at any position, I think that's always a good thing."
Mon, 20 May 2013 16:08:27 -0700 Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker is already making an impression on the Denver Broncos as he is trying to get on the same page with QB Peyton Manning. "Wes and I will continue to work and try to get on the same page," Manning told reporters on Monday. "I thought we had excellent production last year at the slot out of [WR] Brandon Stokley and adding Wes as a new player - we're looking forward to getting on the same page." Fantasy Tip: There is still plenty of time for Manning and Welker to get on the same page as the summer goes on and training camp approaches. Welker should have the same fantasy value with the Broncos as he did with the Patriots and should be drafted accordingly.
Mon, 20 May 2013 09:44:23 -0700 The Denver Broncos gained some salary cap flexibility over the next two seasons after they made some changes to QB Peyton Manning's contract late last week. The team insured themselves against have to pay Manning's $20 million salary in 2014 in the event that he won't be able to play because of a non-neck injury that might be suffered in 2013. Under the new deal, Manning will receive a $10 million salary advance in exchange for his base salaries in 2013 and 2014 being lowered to $15 million each year. The $10 million advance will be treated like a signing bonus and will be prorated over four seasons. As a result, Manning's cap number will be lowered by $2.5 million in both 2013 and 2014, but then rises by $2.5 million in 2015 and 2016.
Fri, 17 May 2013 05:32:21 -0700 Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning signed a "renegotiated" contract, but sources with knowledge of the deal said the new terms don't change his compensation. The contract, according to the source, adds an insurance clause, which reflects that the team has purchased an insurance policy in the event Manning suffers a serious injury. The insurance would both compensate the Broncos and provide a cap credit in the event Manning can't play. Manning will earn $40 million guaranteed over the next two seasons, in $20 million chunks for 2013 and 2014, respectively. The Broncos can avoid the $20 million payment in 2014 only if Manning suffers injury to the same area of his neck that kept him from playing in 2011.
Sun, 21 Apr 2013 16:57:38 -0700 The Denver Broncos are poised to use one of their picks in the 2013 NFL Draft, likely a third-day pick in the draft weekend, on a quarterback. Executive vice president of football operations John Elway wants three quarterbacks on the depth chart with QB Peyton Manning in a meeting room with two young, developmental players.
Wed, 17 Apr 2013 08:33:14 -0700 Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning wants the offense to play faster in 2013, even though the unit finished tied for the fourth-most offensive plays last season. Manning wants the Broncos to get closer to the league-leading New England Patriots, who ran 1,191 plays (74.44 per game). "For whatever reason, our offense plays better the faster we go. I think that was clear cut last season," Manning said. "The receivers liked it; they got into a rhythm. Anything we can do as an offense to build off that, anything we can do to make us more efficient as an offense, that's what we're looking to do."
Mon, 15 Apr 2013 18:19:14 -0700 Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning is excited to be working with WR Wes Welker. "Certainly he's made a lot of plays in New England," Manning said. "He's been great in the red zone. You've seen him catch a lot of touchdowns from Tom [Brady]. The two of them have had great timing -- and that developed over time as well. I don't think you can just say, 'Hey, we're going to have that right away.' It's going to take time. Of course, you want to try to get on the same page as quickly as possible. It was important to start the workouts we got in last week and use these what we call Phase One and Phase Two and minicamps and OTAs and training camp -- every repetition with him will be important. I think he provides some unique things. He has unbelievable quickness, he's excellent with the ball in his hands on those little screen passes. You've seen him get upfield quickly, and I've always thought he's had a nose for the end zone."
Mon, 15 Apr 2013 16:28:13 -0700 Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning wants the team to have an edge when they take the field in 2013. "I know that (executive vice president of football operations) John Elway wants to sort of set kind of an attitude and an edge around here -- maybe a little bit of an uncomfortable atmosphere -- which I believe in," Manning said.
Mon, 15 Apr 2013 05:44:17 -0700 Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning is learning that he can't throw the deep ball as well as he could before the four neck surgeries, and he has to adjust. Manning isn't bothered by it because he knows nerve regeneration can take years. However, he has learned to use what he has and not worry about what he doesn't have. Fantasy Tip: The addition of Wes Welker should help with the lack of downfield ability. The Broncos have three very good receivers, a solid tight end and a capable running back. Manning has enough talent around him to make up for what he doesn't have in his arsenal.
Sun, 14 Apr 2013 13:47:44 -0700 Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning said he is feeling better than he did at this time last offseason but is not where he was before he underwent surgery. "Obviously, I still can perform kind of status quo, but I still have hopes and (am) determined to try to seek some more improvement. But, yeah, I'm certainly better than I was last year. But I'm still not quite where I was before I was injured," Manning said.
Thu, 11 Apr 2013 05:41:37 -0700 Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning worked out with WRs Wes Welker, Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker at Duke University Wednesday, April 10. Duke coach David Cutcliffe worked with them.
Thu, 14 Mar 2013 06:10:53 -0700 The Denver Broncos consulted with QB Peyton Manning before signing WR Wes Welker to a two-year contract. "I asked Peyton about it yesterday to make sure he was on board," executive vice president John Elway said.
Wed, 13 Mar 2013 05:51:29 -0700 The Denver Broncos guaranteed QB Peyton Manning's salaries for the 2013 and 2014 season. He'll make $20 million base salaries in each season.
Sat, 02 Mar 2013 04:50:16 -0800 Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay said former general manager Bill Polian wanted to trade QB Peyton Manning back in 2004 with contract talks between the sides seemingly going nowhere. Polian reportedly told Irsay, "We need to trade Peyton; we can get a bunch of defensive players and become like Tampa Bay or Baltimore." Irsay, however, was not interested.
Thu, 21 Feb 2013 10:42:49 -0800 Denver Broncos head coach John Fox said he believes QB Peyton Manning will improve his play next season because he will be healthier than he was in 2012.
Wed, 20 Feb 2013 09:28:11 -0800 Indianapolis Colts impending free-agent LB Dwight Freeney said Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning already is recruiting him to join the team in the offseason.
Mon, 18 Feb 2013 06:15:53 -0800 Denver Broncos vice president of football operations John Elway said he does not regret the decision to select QB Brock Osweiler in the second round of the NFL Draft despite the acquisition of QB Peyton Manning last offseason. Elway believes Osweiler will be a franchise quarterback for many years to come. "My thought was, we wanted a guy for the future, No. 1," Elway said. "No. 2, if it didn't work out with Peyton, we could load up with a guy that we liked and who could be the guy for the next 10, 12 years. And No. 3, if Peyton did come back and play like he did, then Brock could get a great education of how things were supposed to be done as a quarterback, what you had to go through, to see one of the best of all time do it."
Sat, 16 Feb 2013 09:13:32 -0800 If the Denver Broncos decide to make a big splash in the offseason, the wide receiver position is where the team could spend significant money. With his career winding down, QB Peyton Manning would like another big weapon to throw to. New England Patriots impending free-agent WR Wes Welker is an option, as could Pittsburgh Steelers impending free-agent WR Mike Wallace. The team could also attempt to trade for Minnesota Vikings WR Percy Harvin.
Fri, 08 Feb 2013 11:47:51 -0800 Cleveland Browns QB Brandon Weeden said he is looking forward to competition in training camp. "I expect competition. That's the way professional sports are. Unless you're Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees or these guys, you might as well expect for somebody to try to come take your job," Weeden said "That's part of the business. But it's also the fun part. You get to compete and try to be a winner."
Sun, 03 Feb 2013 06:02:23 -0800 Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning said he is not sure whether he will continue to a wear a glove on his right hand in 2013 as he did at the end of the season. Manning wore the glove to help grip the football, the result of his multiple neck surgeries. "It's hard to say. It's something that I've had to make a number of adjustments coming off this injury," Manning said. "That's just been part of it. That's certainly been one of them amongst other things that I have to do."

"He's much more comfortable with being in the organization," Elway said, "and we think we'll continue to see the growth. There were a lot of unanswered questions for him in that first year and he got a lot of them answered. We know what he's got now is good. We saw what he could do this year. It's only going to get better."
Sun, 27 Jan 2013 20:46:22 -0800 Green Bay Packers C Jeff Saturday, who has announced his retirement, played for both the AFC and NFC in the Pro Bowl Sunday, Jan. 27. He lined up for one play for the AFC to snap the ball one last time to Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning, whom he played with for 13 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts.
Wed, 23 Jan 2013 12:51:43 -0800 Denver Broncos CB Champ Bailey said QB Peyton Manning talked with the players from the AFC and NFC Tuesday, Jan. 22, in an attempt to try to make the Pro Bowl more competitive. "(Manning's talk) meant a lot because I think we do get over here and get relaxed," Bailey said. "The sense of urgency leading up to the game isn't there. It takes something like that to get you going, to understand the importance of it. I get it. We should play hard." The AFC team is expected to practice harder this week to get ready for the game. Manning said the play in the last two Pro Bowl has been unacceptable which is why NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is considering getting rid of the game.

Wed, 26 Dec 2012 04:44:08 -0800 Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning credits TE Jacob Tamme for much of the offense's success this season. Tamme's ability to play both tight end and slot receiver makes him a matchup problem for opposing defenses. "So much for us, in what we do, is how do they play Tamme," Manning said. "Some teams treat him like a receiver and some teams treat him like a tight end, so you kind of find that out, see how they handle him in the formation. He kind of makes them, the way he plays and how he plays, have that discussion and we see where that takes us."
