Rangers | Beginning search for hitting coach

T.R. Sullivan, of MLB.com, reports the Texas Rangers are in the process of beginning their search for a new hitting coach for the 2010 season. The team could consider candidates such as first base coach Gary Pettis, minor league hitting coordinator Mike Boulanger, former MLB OF Rusty Greer, Detroit Tigers hitting instructor Toby Harrah, former MLB 1B Eddie Murray, former hitting coach Thad Bosley, former hitting coach Dave Hudgens and free-agent manager Clint Hurdle (Rockies).

Dodgers.MLB.com reports the Los Angeles Dodgers have dismissed hitting coach Eddie Murray. "Change is never easy but sometimes it is necessary and we feel that this is the best thing right now to help the team win," Dodgers manager Grady Little said. "Our offense hasn't lived up to our expectations and no one person is responsible for the results we've had this season. I have the utmost respect for Eddie Murray as a person and as a professional and I wish him nothing but the best."

Dodgers | Coaching staff expected to return

Ken Gurnick, of Dodgers.MLB.com, reports the entire Los Angeles Dodgers coaching staff is expected back next year. Pitching coach Rick Honeycutt, hitting coach Eddie Murray, bench coach David Jauss, third base coach Rich Donnelly, first base coach Mariano Duncan, bullpen coach Dan Warthen and coach Manny Mota all signed two-year contracts last winter.

Mark Bowman, of Atlanta.Braves.MLB.com, reports Atlanta Braves 3B Chipper Jones hit his 350th career home run Wednesday, Aug. 23, tying him with 1B Chili Davis for third on the all-time home run list for switch-hitters. The only two players remaining ahead of him are 1B Mickey Mantle, with 536 home runs, and 3B Eddie Murray, with 504.

The Akron Beacon Journal's Sheldon Ocker reports the Cleveland Indians fired hitting coach Eddie Murray Saturday, June 4, hours after the Indians lost 6-5 to the Chicago White Sox. "We've parted ways with Eddie Murray," MAN Eric Wedge said. "I have tremendous respect for his knowledge of hitting, but from an operating standpoint, I feel this is best for the club." Minor-league hitting coordinator Derek Shelton will be the team's hitting coach for the rest of the season.
