Arizona Diamondbacks P Jason Lane is trying to re-invent his career by moving from the outfield onto the mound as a relief pitcher. "I wasn't getting at-bats the last few seasons as an outfielder and I was a little frustrated," Lane said. "I felt like the last couple years I spent in Triple-A and haven't gotten too many opportunities to play, so (Arizona general manager) Kevin Towers called me in the offseason and said he had seen me throw one inning last year and thought I could do it and if I wanted to give it a shot, he would give me an opportunity."

The Arizona Diamondbacks assigned Ps Kevin Munson, Evan Marshall and Mike DeMark, INF Chris Owings and Ryan Wheeler and OFs Marc Krauss and Jason Lane to minor league camp Thursday, March 15.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have nine non-roster invitee pitchers headed to camp this spring. Ps Charles Brewer, Patrick Corbin, Mike DeMark, Chris Jakubauskas, Jason Lane, Jensen Lewis, Evan Marshall, Kevin Munson and Tyler Skaggs will each compete for a roster spot at spring training. Pitchers and catchers report Feb. 20, with their first full workout Feb. 21.

BaseballAmerica.com reports that the Florida Marlins have signed OF Jason Lane and P Jermaine Van Buren to minor league contracts. Lane spent last season with the Toronto Blue Jays organization and Van Buren spent the last two years with the La New Bears of the Chinese Professional Baseball League.

The Toronto Blue Jays have reassigned SP Dirk Hayhurst, IFs Russ Adams, Scott Campbell and Brad Emaus and OF Jason Lane to minor league camp, according to The Associated Press. In addition, P Brian Wolfe was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jason Lane is hitting .423 (11-for-26) with three home runs, one double and six RBIs through his first 10 exhibition games this spring, according to Jordan Bastian of MLB.com. Manager Cito Gaston said the team will "absolutely" consider making Lane part of the 25-man roster if OF Vernon Wells (hamstring) is not ready by the season opener.
