Orioles | Adam Jones delivers from leadoff spot

Fri, 27 May 2016 19:59:14 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Adam Jones hit leadoff for the first time this year and went 3-for-5 with a run scored in a 6-4 win over the Cleveland Indians Friday, May 27.

Fantasy Tip: A permanent move to the top of the lineup would hurt Jones' RBI potential, but if it can help boost his slumping bat, it would be worth it. Don't cut him loose just yet, but don't hesitate to bench him for a better option either.

Orioles | Adam Jones, Hyun-soo Kim setting the table

Fri, 27 May 2016 13:36:23 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OFs Adam Jones and Hyun-soo Kim are hitting first and second, respectively, in the lineup against Cleveland Indians SP Trevor Bauer Friday, May 27. OF Joey Rickard remains out of the lineup, and OF Nolan Reimold is starting in right field and is batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: It's looking like Kim, who is hitting an impressive .444 (16-for-36) will start to see more playing time over the Rule 5 pick Rickard. He's worth speculating on in deep mixed and AL-only leagues if that continues. Jones loses some fantasy luster atop the order in daily games without as many chances to drive in runs.

Orioles | Adam Jones stays hot

Sat, 14 May 2016 20:37:47 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Adam Jones homered for the fourth time in five games, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored and extending his hitting streak to seven games in a 9-3 win over the Detroit Tigers Saturday, May 14.

Fantasy Tip: During the seven-game streak, Jones has four homers, nine RBI and nine runs scored. His terrible start is a thing of the past, and the opportunity to try to buy low is officially gone.

Orioles | Adam Jones coming around at the plate

Sat, 14 May 2016 20:29:06 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Adam Jones hovered around a .200 batting average through the month of April but has since picked it up. He has hit four home runs in the last five games and is 11-for-21 in that span, raising his average to .259. Jones is making more solid contact, and the exit velocity on his home run earlier in the week was 110.5 mph. He's hitting the ball with much more authority now, with a season exit velocity of 93.1 mph, equal to that of Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera. Jones remains aggressive, too, and he's hitting .350/.381/.750 when connecting on the first pitch of at-bats. Two of his four homers this year have come on the first pitch. Jones insists there's nothing physically wrong with him after dealing with a rib cage injury in April.

Fantasy Tip: If you bought low on Jones already, you're reaping the benefits. Full health might be the reason why Jones is starting to hit, although he won't admit it. Whatever the case, his exit velocity is a telling sign that you can stop worrying about him moving forward and return him to your starting lineups if you were benching him because of his slow start.

Orioles | Adam Jones reaches milestone Friday

Fri, 13 May 2016 19:13:08 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Adam Jones went 2-for-3 with a solo home run against the Detroit Tigers Friday, May 13. The home run was the 200th of his MLB career.

Fantasy Tip: After getting off to a slow start in 2016, Jones is batting .435 (10-for-23) with three home runs and seven RBI over his last five games. He is a must-start option in all fantasy formats during this stretch.

Orioles | Adam Jones starting to find his form?

Wed, 11 May 2016 14:32:24 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Adam Jones went 4-for-5 with three runs, a home run and two RBI during the Orioles' 9-2 win over the Minnesota Twins Wednesday, May 11.

Fantasy Tip: Jones went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI Tuesday, May 10, so with homers in back-to-back games, fantasy owners might have a hot stretch on their hands. It's welcomed, though. Jones entered Tuesday with a disappointing .200/.269/.274 slash line to start the campaign. Hopefully his early-season slump is behind him.

Orioles | Adam Jones snaps out of funk

Tue, 10 May 2016 23:48:39 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Adam Jones went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs Tuesday, May 10, against the Minnesota Twins to snap out of his hitting slump. He was 3-for-26 over the past seven games, and the homer was his first since April 16.

Fantasy Tip: Jones is still hitting just .210 on the season, and he has two homers and 12 RBIs. Don't give up on him, though, as he has the ability to make up for lost time in rather short order, especially against left-handed pitching.

Orioles | GM thinks Adam Jones is still hurt

Thu, 05 May 2016 12:10:33 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Adam Jones (shoulder) is struggling because he is still hurt, general manager Dan Duquette said Thursday, May 5.

Fantasy Tip: Jones missed a stretch of games with a shoulder injury early in the season and is just 14-for-68 (.206 batting average) through the 18 games since. He also has an underwhelming .593 OPS. Given the recent results of the typically reliable Jones, there is likely a lot of truth to Duquette's suggestion. Stay tuned for updates, but as it stands, it isn't out of the question to bench Jones if you have a suitable replacement.

Orioles | Adam Jones slumping hard

Wed, 04 May 2016 21:43:41 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Adam Jones was hitless in three at-bats with a walk, strikeout and he grounded into a double play Wednesday, May 4, against the New York Yankees to drop his average to .205. "Good hitters with good track records and things that he's done for us, someone will pay," manager Buck Showalter said. "He's a little frustrated by it, but I know Adam. He's gone through some periods like a lot of good hitters do and he'll get it going. He'll get it going."

Fantasy Tip: Jones is slumping hard, but he remains a must-start fantasy option for the reasons Showalter said. Jones will get it going, and that usually comes at the expense of left-handed pitching.

Orioles | Adam Jones tanks against John Danks

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 08:49:58 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Adam Jones is 1-for-33 (.030) lifetime against Chicago White Sox SP John Danks, who toes the rubber Thursday, April 28.

Fantasy Tip: Batter vs. pitcher splits are so subjective and don't hold a lot of weight. However, this is a large sample size, and there appears to be something the lefty does that has Jones off balance. Add in that Jones has a .196-1-5 line to open the year, and he might be one to avoid in DFS today.
