New York Yankees RP Luis Ayala, 3B Eric Chavez, SP Bartolo Colon, SP Freddy Garcia, OF Andruw Jones, RP Damaso Marte, RP Sergio Mitre and DH Jorge Posada have filed for free agency, according to the players union.

New York Yankees RP Sergio Mitre (shoulder) is seeking a second opinion after being diagnosed with a pinched nerve in his shoulder. An MRI showed no structural damage, but the pinch is causing his velocity to suffer dramatically. He lost about 6 mph. The second opinion is to determine if surgery is needed.

Manager Joe Girardi particularly singled out Mitre, who has struggled in his past two appearances. "He just doesn't have the velocity and the sink that he had, and I can't tell you exactly why," Girardi said.
