Former New York Yankees C Jim Leyritz is the new pitching coach for the minor league Newark Bears, according to The Associated Press. Cleared in November of criminal charges stemming from a fatal 2007 car collision in Florida, Leyritz will take over the pitching staff of the Can-Am League team for which he once played. The team is managed by Tim Raines, his former Yankees teammate.

Former MLB C Jim Leyritz has been acquitted of DUI manslaughter in a 2007 crash that killed a 30-year-old woman by a jury in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., according to The Associated Press. However, he was convicted on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence, which carries a maximum prison sentence of six months. Sentencing will take place Monday, Nov. 29.
