Giants | Eli Manning, Odell Beckham to play

Thu, 03 Sep 2015 12:24:33 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning, WR Odell Beckham Jr. and most of the other offensive starters are expected to play a series or two in the preseason finale against the New England Patriots Thursday, Sept. 3, as head coach Tom Coughlin wants to see the unit click before the regular season opener. WR Victor Cruz (calf) will not play.

Fantasy Tip: Not much can be gleaned from a series or two for the Giants offensive starters against a likely backup defensive unit for New England. Beckham became a star last year and you'll likely have to pay a first- or second-round price for him in fantasy drafts. Manning, with more weapons than maybe he's ever had before, could be a sneaky QB2 this year.

Giants | Eli Manning denies asking price

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 10:25:42 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning has denied reports that have stated that he is looking to become the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL with his next contract. "The reports are all wrong," Manning said. "That's never been said, it's never come out of my mouth, I've never said it to my agent, I don't know where people are getting their information." The two sides have had contract extension talks but appear willing to wait until after the season to work on a deal.

Fantasy Tip: Manning has posted solid numbers over the last several seasons but has struggled with interceptions during his career. He will have a terrific wide receiver corps to work with this season and could be a solid No. 2 fantasy quarterback in a majority of leagues.

Giants | Eli Manning's desired contract details

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 17:18:06 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning is looking to be paid at least as much as QBs Philip Rivers and Ben Roethlisberger, and he's not necessarily looking to be the highest paid player in football.

Fantasy Tip: This would put Manning in the range of $21-22 million per year, which is far more reasonable than the original reports. It is likely still an overpayment, but Rivers and Big Ben are far better comparables than Aaron Rodgers.

Giants | No rush on Eli Manning's contract

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 12:02:07 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning and the Giants are still in the beginning stages of contract negotiations. There is no hurry to get a deal done because there is no deadline for a new deal. Manning is expected to receive a new deal next year.

Fantasy Tip: There's no reason for the Giants to get a deal done for Manning before the season begins. They might as well let that drama play out when there's no football being played. The groundwork for Manning's future deal has already been set with a few big-name quarterbacks receiving new deals this year. Manning may not deserve to be the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL, but he does deserve low-end QB1 to high-end QB2 consideration in fantasy leagues.

Giants | Eli Manning not close to deal

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 10:45:45 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning and the team have a "significant gap" in their negotiations for a long-term contract extension. The gap is unlikely to close soon, either, as Manning seeks to become the highest-paid quarterback in the league. Manning would make $25 million next year if the franchise tag is placed on him.

Fantasy Tip: Manning's arm is reportedly stronger this preseason, and he has plenty of weapons around him in the passing game to put up a big season. Draft him as a low-end starting quarterback with upside for more in the right matchups.

Giants | Eli Manning will be signed by opener

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 18:54:42 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning will be re-signed by the beginning of the 2015 season, according to president/CEO/co-owner John Mara Monday, Aug. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Manning is expected to sign for more than the four-year, $83.25 million contract signed by Philip Rivers Monday. The Giants unfortunately need to pay Manning for his two Super Bowl victories, as opposed to his recent performance.

Giants | Eli Manning wants to be highest paid QB

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 16:22:36 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning wants to be the highest paid quarterback in the league, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com Monday, Aug. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Manning has two Super Bowl rings, but he has also thrown double-digit interceptions in every season in which he started 16 games. Manning had one of his best statistical seasons in 2014, when he threw 30 touchdown passes and totaled 4,410 passing yards, but he's still a far cry from the likes of Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers.

Giants | Eli Manning worked on arm strength

Thu, 06 Aug 2015 15:54:16 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Giants QB Eli Manning put in hard work in the offseason to make sure his arm was stronger this year. He worked with baseball coaches on his throwing motion and tried other new techniques. Manning's warmup routine is now different; he's not throwing the ball in warmups but instead doing exercises to warm up his shoulder and upper body. Manning has looked good in practices and hadn't thrown an interception until Thursday, Aug. 6. "I think last year, I felt good," Manning said. "I think I feel better right now than I did at this time last year. So I'm excited about the way my body feels, my health and the way everything is kind of set up. Hopefully I can keep it that way."

Fantasy Tip: Manning's supporting cast is much better this year, especially in the receiving corps, and if he can avoid costly turnovers, he could have a fine season and put up QB1 numbers many weeks. However, you won't be drafting him as anything more than a QB2.

Giants | Eli Manning at his strongest?

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 15:51:45 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning's arm is stronger than it's ever been, according to Manning's former quarterbacks coach, Mike Sullivan. Sullivan also said that Manning looks like he has a renewed energy and extra motivation. Manning has also taken care of his body and worked on his fundamentals and techniques.

Fantasy Tip: A solid offseason, more comfort with the offense and a very talented supporting cast seem to be leading to a promising season for Manning. If all the pistons are firing, he could put up QB1 numbers in 2015, but it's safer to draft him as a QB2.

Giants | Eli Manning's contract talks stalled?

Fri, 24 Jul 2015 18:45:42 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning and the team have not had meaningful, substantive contract talks in some time.

Fantasy Tip: Manning is expected to re-sign with the team at some point, and whether or not it is before the season begins, he should still be able to provide low-end QB1 value as long as his receivers stay healthy.

Giants | Eli Manning's agent growing impatient?

Thu, 23 Jul 2015 18:38:26 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning's agent, Tom Condon, seems to be upset with the lack of progress regarding Manning's contract extension. When asked when the fans could expect a new deal for Manning, Condon said, "We'd like to know that as well."

Fantasy Tip: Although there are still some details to work out, Manning is expected to stay with the Giants long term. If his receiving corps stays healthy this year, he should sneak into QB1 territory.

Giants | Eli Manning extension sought after

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 06:01:43 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning could have an extension signed by the team before or early in training camp. Manning is set to make $17 million and count $19.25 million against the cap this season.

Fantasy Tip: Either way, Manning is a low-end QB1 option in traditional leagues.

Giants | Big contract coming for Eli Manning?

Sat, 27 Jun 2015 19:17:15 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning will likely work out a new deal with the team, according to his agent Tom Condon, but it won't come at a discount. "The quarterbacks always get done," Condon said. "And the Giants are not a skittish team. So it's not one of those things where they get nervous or they jump around or anything like that. You know you're going to go in and it's going to get done. I'm sure at the appropriate time it'll happen."

Fantasy Tip: Manning has never missed a game, and he has topped 4,000 yards in four of the last five years. If his receiving corps can stay healthy in 2015, he should creep into QB1 territory.

Giants | Eli Manning looks comfortable

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 09:15:08 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning looked more comfortable with the offense this offseason than he did at any point last offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Manning is entering his second year in the offense, so he should be more productive this season. Manning may not be a weekly starting option in 2015 but could be a starter against certain matchups and could be a solid No. 2 quarterback in some leagues.

Giants | Eli Manning focusing on arm strength

Fri, 12 Jun 2015 18:26:13 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning spoke with baseball trainers to develop a program designed to keep his arm strong throughout the 2015 season. "I think I got a good plan that should keep it strong the whole season," Manning said. "It feels live, it feels like it is strong, definitely has some more pop on it, and I think that's the goal, just to keep it there for the whole season."

Fantasy Tip: If his receiving corps can stay healthy, Manning has QB1 upside in 2015. At the very least, he should be a high-level QB2.

Giants | Eli Manning believes in Rueben Randle

Thu, 11 Jun 2015 20:57:45 -0700

New York Giants WR Rueben Randle can be a "dominant receiver" and will have a "big year" in 2015, QB Eli Manning said Thursday, June 11.

Fantasy Tip: Randle finished last season with back-to-back 100-yard games, and he ended the year with a career-high 938 receiving yards. However, he will likely be third in the pecking after the emergence of Odell Beckham Jr. and with Victor Cruz returning from injury. Randle is worth grabbing as a WR5, but don't expect him to be the dominant force Manning spoke of.

Giants | Eli Manning throwing better

Wed, 10 Jun 2015 13:24:16 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning has shown improvements this offseason in second-year offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo's offense. Manning has extremely limited the amount of interceptions he's thrown compared to last offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Manning is showing that he's become more comfortable and familiar with the offense. The offense isn't at full strength right now with some injuries on the offensive line and some big-name wide receivers not being able to practice yet. That being said, once everyone starts playing together and becomes a cohesive unit, Manning should be a solid QB2 with low-end QB1 potential.

Giants | No contract talks with Eli Manning

Mon, 08 Jun 2015 22:48:04 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning enters the final year of a six-year contract, and he said Monday, June 8, that the team has not talked to him about a new contract. "No discussions yet," Manning said. "I don't know if there will be or not."

Fantasy Tip: Manning rebounded in 2014 with 30 touchdowns and 14 interceptions after leading the league in INTs in 2013. He has also been durable, starting 167 consecutive games. Since he is likely playing for a big contract, it could be a banner year for Eli in 2015 which is great news for potential fantasy owners.

Giants | Eli Manning comfortable with offense

Sun, 07 Jun 2015 19:57:15 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning said he understands the concepts and feels more comfortable with offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo's system this year after offseason ankle surgery limited his reps last season.

Fantasy Tip: Manning could be a sneaky QB1 in 2015. In addition to understanding the offense better, he will have a healthy Victor Cruz to throw to and a full year of Odell Beckham Jr.

Giants | Eli Manning not worried about contract

Sun, 26 Apr 2015 11:26:45 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning said he is not worried about his contract situation and that the two sides have not discussed an extension.

Fantasy Tip: Manning is coming off a solid season with 4,410 passing yards and 30 touchdowns in 16 games. He should have most of his offensive weapons back in 2015 and could be a starting option against certain matchups.

Giants | Eli Manning ready for 2015

Mon, 20 Apr 2015 11:47:55 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning is comfortable playing in the final year of his contract, despite not having an extension past this season. Manning said his focus is on football and that he doesn't get too focused on his contract. "The way I look at it, I have one more year and I'm going to play that year and go from there."

Fantasy Tip: Manning seemed to struggle last year in new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo's offense. He still put up 4,410 yards and 30 touchdowns, however, so he could see similar or better numbers with another offseason of the system under his belt.

Giants | Eli Manning more comfortable with offense

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 11:43:05 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning feels more comfortable in the offense this season. Last year was the team's first exposure to offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo's new system. "This year will be a much easier transition, knowing that we have been through so much of it already… I feel good about it. I feel that I have a good understanding of it, but there is still room to grow and that is why I try to keep it as fresh in my mind as possible," Manning said.

Fantasy Tip: Manning struggled noticeably in his first season quarterbacking the new offense. Despite the struggles, however, Manning still posted over 4,400 yards and 30 touchdowns. He's a solid QB2 option heading into 2015.

Giants | Coughlin not worried about Eli Manning

Thu, 26 Mar 2015 10:32:04 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning could play out the rest of his contract, but head coach Tom Coughlin didn't sound worried about Manning eventually receiving a contract extension in New York. "I don't see that as being an issue," Coughlin said when asked if the absence of an extension would become a distraction for Manning. "Eli knows he's our guy." The team brass appears willing to let Manning play out the final year of his contract he signed in 2009.

Fantasy Tip: There isn't much that stands out about Manning for fantasy owners, but he has been durable, playing a full 16 games in each of the last 10 seasons. After a rough 2013 season that saw him throw 18 touchdowns and 27 interceptions, he bounced back nicely in 2014 to throw for 30 TDs and 4,410 yards. Still, Manning profiles more as a decent QB2 in all formats.

Giants | Eli Manning may finish out current deal

Mon, 23 Mar 2015 04:36:31 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning may play the final season of his current contract before the club and Manning talk about an extension, according to two sources.

Fantasy Tip: The club could potentially save up to $10 million on the salary cap by doing a deal now, but with a lot of free agents off the market it wouldn't be as appealing to the Giants. Manning is still a solid selection in fantasy drafts as this contract talk should not affect his on-field play.

Giants | No extension yet for Eli Manning

Thu, 19 Mar 2015 23:55:08 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning has not had contract extension talks with the team yet, but co-owner John Mara said something would "obviously be done at some point."

Fantasy Tip: Like his older brother Peyton, Eli's career is in the wind-down stage, but he also has some life left in the arm. Eli Manning is a decent QB2 option in most leagues. He isn't among the elites like before, but Manning won't cause you undue problems.

Giants | Eli Manning is much improved

Wed, 22 Oct 2014 21:58:48 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning has completed 65 percent of his passes, which would be a career high. He also has 14 touchdown passes to just five interceptions, compared to 10 touchdowns and 15 interceptions at this point last season. "(The difference is) probably in his football," quarterbacks coach Danny Langsdorf said Wednesday, Oct. 22. "I think he is playing at a high level and I think improved football has really helped out."

New York Giants QB Eli Manning completed 13 of his 23 pass attempts for 151 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 6 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. He was lifted in the final minutes of the fourth quarter in favor backup QB Ryan Nassib.

Fantasy Tip: Manning was rolling right along, and Week 6 looked to be a favorable matchup. Manning faces another difficult matchup in Week 7 against the Dallas Cowboys, a team which really clamped down on Russell Wilson in Sunday's win.

Giants | Eli Manning has new approach

Tue, 07 Oct 2014 20:56:40 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning has been asked to throw the ball away more this year by quarterbacks coach Danny Langsdorf in order to limit the number of times he is sacked and the number of high-risk throws he makes. The new approach has Manning completing a career-best 66.3 percent of his passes, and he is currently on pace for a career-high 36 touchdowns.

Fantasy Tip: Manning's salary of $6,700 (13.4% of cap) at FantasyScore in Week 6 ranks 20th at the position, making him a potential bargain against a Philadelphia defense that ranks 29th against the pass.

Giants | Eli Manning comfortable in offense

Fri, 26 Sep 2014 09:00:05 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning has become comfortable in the new offense, and he has worked efficiently in the no-huddle. In Week 4 against the Washington Redskins Thursday, Sept. 25, Manning was 20-for-27 on throws 10 yards or shorter, and all four of his touchdown passes came on such passes. "Yes, starting to like the offense," Manning said. "It's fun. Each week we have some new things and different plays that will work. I think everybody, offensive linemen, receivers, are starting to feel the tempo of things and see what we can do in this offense. We just have to keep working." Head coach Tom Coughlin and offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo have successfully tailored their offense to fit their personnel.

Fantasy Tip: Manning pleased his owners and then some with his Thursday night performance. Next week against the Atlanta Falcons could yield more big numbers for Manning. Odell Beckham Jr. could return in Week 5, too, giving the offense a legitimate deep threat.

Giants | Eli Manning sharp in rout

Thu, 25 Sep 2014 20:47:27 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning threw for 300 yards and four scores and rushed for a touchdown in the team's 45-14 win over the Washington Redskins Thursday, Sept. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Manning is one of the streakiest quarterbacks in the game, but his performance Thursday was a reminder of just how good he can be. The problem from a fantasy standpoint is that you never know if Manning is going to be the player that has won two Super Bowl MVPs or the one that has led the NFL in interceptions three times. He is a high-risk, high-reward pick at FantasyScore.

Giants | Eli Manning struggling on deep passes

Thu, 25 Sep 2014 13:30:29 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning has looked more comfortable in offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo's system the last two weeks, but he's still struggling on deep passes. Manning is 0-for-7 with an interception on passes past 20 yards this year. He completed only 28.6 percent of downfield passes for a passer rating of 62.9 last year, too. Manning completed 36.3 percent of downfield passes from 2009 to 2012, though.

Fantasy Tip: Manning finally may be coming around in the new offense, but his lack of success down the field is concerning. As Hanzus notes, the return of Odell Beckham Jr., likely in Week 5, could help boost that part of Manning's game. Tonight against the Washington Redskins, Manning ($5,800 at FantasyScore) could yield some serious profit.

Giants | Eli Manning more comfortable

Wed, 24 Sep 2014 09:48:08 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning said he is starting to feel more comfortable in the team's new offense after he completed 75 percent of his passes in Week 3 with two touchdowns. "It's coming around," Manning said. "You need some live games. Practice is one thing. Live games are different. It's a different speed, a different pace. It's seeing things. That's where you get your best reps and a better feel for things."

Fantasy Tip: Manning has had his struggles in the new offense but appears to be getting a better handle of the scheme. Manning costs $5,800 on FantasyScore this week, but owners may want to hold off on using him until he produces on a more consistent basis.

Giants | Eli Manning has support from coordinator

Fri, 12 Sep 2014 15:52:00 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning has struggled to pick up the team's new West Coast offense in four preseason games and the regular season opener, but offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo continues to believe that Manning is the right guy for the job. "He is the perfect fit for this offense," McAdoo said. "He is very smart. I thought that if there was anything encouraging about what happened in the game (the 35-14 loss to the Detroit Lions), it was the comfort level with his feet and the progress that he is making fundamentally." McAdoo said that progress is coming, but "we aren't going to apologize" if it takes weeks or longer. McAdoo also said that he wants to get the ball to WRs Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle more often.

Fantasy Tip: The G-Men are facing solid cornerbacks from the Arizona Cardinals this weekend, so more struggles could be in store. Until Manning gains your trust, it'd be wise to avoid him in FantasyScore.

Giants | Eli Manning a work in progress

Thu, 11 Sep 2014 13:16:55 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning struggled to grasp the team's new West Coast offense in the preseason, and it carried over into Week 1 against the Detroit Lions. Arizona Cardinals head coach and offensive guru Bruce Arians thinks it could take as long as half a season to reprogram a veteran quarterback in a new offense. "I try to never judge a quarterback in a new offense until Week 8," Arians said. He said QB Carson Palmer didn't understand their new vertical attack last year until Week 8.

Fantasy Tip: The injury-depleted Cardinals played well against the San Diego Chargers in Week 1, and that could continue if Manning and the Giants continue to struggle on offense. It'd be wise to avoid Manning and his $5,200 salary at FantasyScore.

Giants | Offense a work in progress

Fri, 29 Aug 2014 14:44:35 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning said the team's new offense has room for improvement, but he is not concerned. "I think we're still trying to get it exactly the way we want it," Manning said Friday. "It's a work in progress. There's definitely room for improvement, and that will be a season-long situation, which I think is normal. That's not a bad thing. I think we have to know what we do well and where we need to make our improvements and be harsh on ourselves to make those improvements."

Fantasy Tip: While the passing game has struggled through out the preseason, the Giants have had success running the ball. The team may lean on the running game in the early part of the season while the passing game catches up.

Giants | Eli Manning to start Thursday

Mon, 25 Aug 2014 16:21:35 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning and the rest of the starters will play around 15 to 18 snaps in the team's preseason finale against the New England Patriots Thursday, Aug. 28, according to head coach Tom Coughlin. The Giants offense has struggled in the preseason, and Manning threw his first touchdown pass last week.

Fantasy Tip: The G-Men will not head into Week 1 firing on all cylinders on offense, and it might take a good portion of the early season for them to get on the same page. That doesn't speak well for Manning and the rest of his offensive weapons.

Giants | Receivers inconsistent

Tue, 19 Aug 2014 08:19:25 -0700

New York Giants WRs Victor Cruz, Rueben Randle, Jerrel Jernigan and Mario Manningham have not made many big plays this preseason. Cruz initially caught a long play-action pass Saturday, Aug. 16, but dropped it. Randle has one catch for 12 yards in three games. Jernigan has not carried over his momentum from late last season, per head coach Tom Coughlin, and also dropped a throw from Eli Manning Saturday. Corey Washington has three touchdowns but received fewer first-string practice reps than Manningham in first-string practice reps Monday, Aug. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Add in Odell Beckham Jr.'s injury, and there's little reason to believe in this offense right now. At least this may make them cheaper fantasy options.

Giants | Eli Manning not throwing ball downfield

Sun, 10 Aug 2014 10:46:44 -0700

In two preseason appearances spanning two quarters, New York Giants QB Eli Manning has yet to throw a pass that has traveled more than 10 yards in the air - most likely the result of offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo lacking confidence in his offensive line. He went 0-for-2 and was sacked once in four offensive series against the Pittsburgh Steelers Saturday, Aug. 9.
