Chicago Cubs 3B Luis Valbuena (oblique) was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in his first rehab game with the rookie level AZL Cubs. OF Ryan Sweeney (rib) went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI in his third rehab game with the affiliate.
Fantasy Tip: Valbuena may have to cede ABs to Donnie Murphy when he returns, but he's on the good side of a platoon and figures to stay that way once Murphy cools off, as expected. Sweeney may not have any place to play unless the Cubbies deal Nate Schierholtz via waivers.

Chicago Cubs 3B Luis Valbuena (oblique) and OF Ryan Sweeney (rib) will move to Arizona for their rehab this weekend. Sweeney and Valbuena will start playing in the Rookie League Saturday, Aug. 24. SP Scott Baker (elbow) has made two starts for Single-A Daytona and three for Single-A Kane County.

The Chicago Cubs activated OF Brian Bogusevic (hamstring) from the 15-day disabled list Monday, Aug. 19. OF Ryan Sweeney (rib) will likely begin his rehab assignment next week.
Fantasy Tip: Bogusevic should see semi-regular playing time after the Cubbies shipped David DeJesus to the Nationals yesterday. Consider him in deep mixed formats.

Chicago Cubs OF Brian Bogusevic (hamstring) is expected to continue his rehab with Triple-A Iowa and be activated from the disabled list soon. He was hitting .286 (6-for-21) and had played center field in four of his six games in the Rookie League in Arizona. 3B Luis Valbuena (oblique) has been swinging a fungo bat but has yet to hit. He's also playing catch from short distances. OF Ryan Sweeney (rib) has been hitting in the cages and is expected to return in September.

Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum indicated Sunday, June 30, that OF Brian Bogusevic will get a majority of the starts in center field with OFs David DeJesus (shoulder) and Ryan Sweeney (rib) sidelined.
Fantasy Tip: Bogusevic is a nice short-term addition in deeper NL-only fantasy leagues because he is expected to see regular at-bats, but he has rather limited potential.

Updating a previous report, Chicago Cubs OF Ryan Sweeney (rib) sustained a fractured left rib after running into the outfield wall Saturday, June 29, in a game against the Seattle Mariners. He will not be allowed to do baseball activities for four to six weeks and will be placed on the disabled list Tuesday, July 2.
Fantasy Tip: For now, the light-hitting Julio Borbon figures to get the bulk of the starts in center field for the Cubs. He offers solid defense and good speed on the bases but not much else, so he should only be considered in deep NL-only leagues.
