Updating previous reports, Pittsburgh Pirates SP A.J. Burnett (eye) will be activated from the disabled list in order to start against the St. Louis Cardinals Saturday, April 21. SP Kevin Correia (side), who had been scheduled to start the game, is unable to pitch because he is experiencing discomfort in his left side. Burnett went 0-3 with a 9.58 ERA and a 1.94 WHIP during his three minor league rehab starts.

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Kevin Correia tossed another four scoreless innings against the Philadelphia Phillies in Grapefruit League action Friday, March 16, and he hasn't allowed an earned run this spring. Correia gave up just one hit while striking out two and walking one. "I'm feeling good out there, strong, putting the ball where I want for the most part," Correia said. "Feels a little better every time out."

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Kevin Correia said Tuesday, Feb. 28, that he is not only trying to make the team's rotation, but he wants to be the best pitcher on the staff. "I'm not trying to be a guy who just makes the rotation as the fifth guy," Correia said. "I'm trying to be the best I can do. I feel like if I do that, it shouldn't be a problem." The team added veterans SP Erik Bedard and A.J. Burnett in offseason moves, so the competition for rotation spots has heated up in the spring.
