Mike Chappell reports for the Indianapolis Star that Indianapolis Colts RB Edgerrin James made a few friendly wagers with teammates over the World Series. After James lost, he owed LB Sam Sword $500 and DB Rodregis Brooks $100. He paid up on time, dragging in two buckets full of pennies. "I pay on time," James said while noting it usually takes them a couple days to pay him.

Mike Chappell reports for the Indianapolis Star the Indianapolis Colts opened their mini-camp on Friday with 10 linebackers available at practice, but only two -- Mike Peterson and Sam Sword -- have started a game in the NFL. When the Colts open the 2001 regular season. The projected starters are Peterson on the weak side (away from the tight end), Rob Morris in the middle and Marcus Washington on the strong side. With the loss of veteran LB Cornelius Bennett, the team will look to Peterson to be a leader at that position. Team president Bill Polian has not ruled out re-signing LB Dwight Hollier, a 15-game starter at middle linebacker in 2000 who would provide depth at all three spots.

The Indianapolis Star/News reports Colts head coach Jim Mora believes Minnesota QB Daunte Culpepper (ankle) will be healthy enough to play Sunday. Mora is preparing the Colts as if Culpepper will play. Mora also said if LB Dwight Hollier (shoulder) starts, they need to be prepare in case he's unable to finish the game. Ratcliff Thomas would then take over and Sam Sword would be the backup.
