Mon, 18 Mar 2013 14:40:57 -0700 Oakland Athletics RP Grant Balfour (knee) threw 17 pitches in an inning of work against minor leaguers Monday, March 18, and said his knee was not an issue. Fantasy Tip: Balfour should be ready to go April 1 unless he suffers some sort of setback before then. Ryan Cook will be Balfour's main handcuff all season long. There is a good chance Oakland will look to deal Balfour if they aren't in contention in the summer, so Cook could easily wind up with the majority of save chances for the A's this year.
Fri, 15 Mar 2013 16:10:14 -0700 Oakland Athletics RP Grant Balfour (knee) is set to make his spring debut Monday, March 18, after throwing to hitters Friday, March 15. He also did running drills and said his knee is responding very well. Balfour used all of his pitches Friday and will have two weeks of spring action before opening day. Fantasy Tip: All indications are that Balfour will be ready to start the season as Oaktown's ninth-inning stopper, unless he suffers a setback. This is great news for his owners, but it wouldn't hurt to cover your bases with a late-round selection of Ryan Cook, Balfour's likely successor barring poor results or a midseason trade.

Fri, 01 Mar 2013 12:16:21 -0800 Oakland Athletics RP Grant Balfour (knee) threw 25 pitches off a mound Friday, March 1, and he should be pitching in spring games in two weeks barring a setback. Pitching coach Curt Young thinks Balfour was at "91 percent" effort level. He's not being allowed to run yet and still has some stiffness in his knee. It will likely be another week before he has full range of motion.

Mon, 25 Feb 2013 17:29:11 -0800 Oakland Athletics RP Grant Balfour (knee) threw on flat ground Monday, Feb. 25, and hopes to throw a bullpen within the next week. "My arm feels great," Balfour said. "My leg has a little bit further to come, but it's getting there." He'll throw another 25 or 30 tosses in another day or two, and he could start pitching in spring games in two or three weeks, which would give him plenty of time to be ready for the regular season.
