The St. Louis Cardinals have purchased the contract of RP Brian Fuentes from Double-A Springfield. In a corresponding move, the team option RP Victor Marte to Triple-A Memphis. The team also designated P Chuck Fick for assignment to open a space on the 40-man roster.

The team has the option to keep Fuentes in the minors only until the end of July, and then he has a player opt-out clause that he can trigger if he is not on the major league roster by July 31.
