He will make $4.25 million in 2013 and a mutual option for the 2014 season was added with a $250,000 buyout. Betancourt can make an extra $200,000 for 55 games finished. He can also make $50,000 each for 40 and 45 games finished, $150,000 for 50, $200,000 for 55 and $250,000 for 60 games finished if his options are exercised in '13 and '14.

The club is expected to shop RP Huston Street in the offseason, and the team isn't against giving the ninth-inning duties to RP Rafael Betancourt. Street is due $7 million in 2012 in the final year of his contract. Pitching coach Bob Apodaca thinks Betancourt could close for the team, and the addition of a changeup has made him more effective. "He's all business in the ninth," Apodaca said. "They know what's coming and they still can't center it. He's definitely shown he can handle the job."
