Fri, 24 May 2013 15:56:31 -0700 Colorado Rockies RP Rafael Betancourt (groin) will throw a bullpen Friday, May 24, to determine if he'll be available. Fantasy Tip: If Betancourt isn't available for a save situation tonight, expect Rex Brothers to get another shot at locking down the win. Betancourt's injury was minor, though, so he should be available this weekend, if not tonight.
Wed, 22 May 2013 12:43:37 -0700 Colorado Rockies manager Walt Weiss is unsure who he'll turn to Wednesday, May 22, if a save situation arises with RP Rafael Betancourt (groin) unavailable. RPs Rex Brothers, Wilton Lopez or Matt Belisle are all options, but Weiss could play the matchups. Fantasy Tip: Brothers is likely to receive the first crack at a save situation, unless Weiss plays the matchups in the ninth. If you already own Brothers in a deep league, hang onto him a bit longer until we know for sure that Betancourt is out of the woods. It's probably not worth adding Brothers otherwise.
Wed, 22 May 2013 10:55:41 -0700 Colorado Rockies RP Rafael Betancourt (groin) has inflammation around scar tissue in his right groin and is expected to avoid the disabled list. Team trainer Keith Dugger said Betancourt will receive anti-inflammatory medicine, which should calm the area. The trainer isn't worried that the injury is serious. Betancourt is expected to be fine by Friday, May 24. Fantasy Tip: A sigh of relief for Betancourt owners. Those who have Rex Brothers stashed should consider keeping him around until Betancourt is out of the woods, but the club's closer sounds as if he'll be fine.
Wed, 22 May 2013 06:19:49 -0700 Colorado Rockies CL Rafael Betancourt (hamstring) will undergo an MRI on his right groin Wednesday, May 22, after leaving the previous day's game with tightness in the area. The team hopes the off day Thursday, May 23, will help him avoid the disabled list. Fantasy Tip: If Rex Brothers' 0.44 ERA and 21 K's in 20 1/3 innings wasn't enough to convince you to pick him up, do so now. They have a day game today, and Brothers will probably be used if a save situation arises. Betancourt's ailment doesn't sound serious, but it could keep him out through the weekend.
Wed, 20 Feb 2013 21:56:51 -0800 Colorado Rockies RP Rafael Betancourt said Wednesday, Feb. 20, that he is taking his time getting ready for the regular season, and he is not included on the early spring pitching schedule which includes a charity game Friday, Feb. 22, and six Cactus League contests."I'm going to try to get in 10-12 innings down here in spring training, and there's plenty of time for that. I just want to get ready for the season," Betancourt said.
Thu, 17 Jan 2013 15:07:44 -0800 Colorado Rockies RP Rafael Betancourt will not be pitching for Venezuela in the 2013 World Baseball Classic.
Wed, 05 Dec 2012 09:16:25 -0800 Colorado Rockies RP Wilton Lopez will serve as a setup man along with RPs Matt Belisle and Rex Brothers. Lopez will be more of a one-inning pitcher and he could also spell RP Rafael Betancourt in the ninth if he needs a breather.
Mon, 03 Dec 2012 14:33:04 -0800 The Colorado Rockies are looking for a late-inning reliever who could close out games, according to a major league source. The Rockies went after RP Jordan Walden before he was traded to the Atlanta Braves last week. The Rockies are also looking at Houston Astros RP Wilton Lopez, who was nearly traded to the Philadelphia Phillies. They want to find a reliever who can compete for the closer role with RP Rafael Betancourt. The Rockies are interested in free-agent RP Joakim Soria (Royals), but he won't be joining Colorado, according to a source close to Soria. Free-agent RP Jason Grilli (Pirates) is another option.
Tue, 07 Aug 2012 06:14:28 -0700 Colorado Rockies SP Drew Pomeranz an RPs Adam Ottavino, Matt Belisle and Rafael Betancourt combined for a five-hit shutout of the Los Angeles Dodgers Monday, Aug. 6. Pomeranz allowed three hits and three walks while fanning seven in four scoreless innings.
Mon, 30 Jul 2012 13:01:00 -0700 The Texas Rangers are eying Colorado Rockies RP Rafael Betancourt. The Oakland Athletics, Toronto Blue Jays, Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals could be fits for him, too. Teams have also called about the availability of INF Jonathan Herrera and RP Matt Reynolds.
