Free-agent RP David Aardsma (Mariners) has resumed throwing but will not pursue a new contract until he is further along on his rehab, according to agent Jamie Murphy. Aardsma is recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Seattle Mariners RP David Aardsma (elbow) cleared waivers and has become a free agent. The M's chose not to go to arbitration with their closer after he recovers from Tommy John surgery. He would have been owed at least $3.6 million in arbitration. Aardsma expects to be fully recovered by June or July of next year.

Seattle Mariners RPs David Aardsma (hip, forearm) and Shawn Kelley (elbow) both threw in the bullpen Friday, July 8, and Aardsma is close to starting a rehab assignment. "He's feeling pretty good," manager Eric Wedge said. "He looked good. He's making progress. We're now getting to the point in time where we'll see how it's going to play out." Kelley isn't as far along and will throw again Sunday, July 10. He is hoping to throw a full bullpen session after the All-Star break.

The Seattle Mariners activated P Mauricio Robles (elbow) from the 60-day disabled list and optioned him to the minors Monday, June 13. In a corresponding move, the team transferred RP David Aardsma (hip) to the 60-day DL.

Seattle Mariners RP David Aardsma (elbow, hip) said Tuesday, May 17, that he'll pitch in 2011. "I will pitch this year," Aardsma said. "If I don't pitch this year, something will really be wrong." He has been slow to recover from offseason hip surgery.
