Eagles | Parry knows his role is blocking

Sat, 03 Jun 2006 06:42:35 -0700

Bob Brookover, of the Philadelphia Inquirer, reports the Philadelphia Eagles fullbacks, including FB Josh Parry, know their role in the offense is to block. Since the 2002 season, the Eagles have handed the ball to the fullback exactly two times. Parry won't complain about his lack of activity even though he was one of just two fullbacks who didn't run the ball a year ago. The other was New York Giants FB Jim Finn. "There's just not enough plays to go around with as many weapons as we have," Parry said Friday, June 2, after the Eagles completed a rookie camp at the NovaCare Complex. "It's not a big priority, and it doesn't even faze me. I'm concerned with blocking in the run game and protecting the quarterback. Head coach Andy Reid revealed that he would like to get his fullback a little more involved in running the football. "We probably should use it more," the head coach said. There was a time under Reid when the fullback ran the ball a little, although no Eagles fullback has scored a rushing touchdown since 1995.

Updating previous reports, Tara Sullivan, of the Bergen Record, reports the competition throughout the pre-season between FB Jim Finn and FB Charles Stackhouse for the one fullback spot on the roster has not provided a clear cut winner in the eyes of head coach Jim Fassel. "[Stackhouse] was all right. Both of them had ups and downs and that's where they put the ball in my court, when neither one takes charge of the position."
