The Oakland Athletics committed five errors in their game against the Seattle Mariners Friday, April 1, according to The Associated Press. 3B Kevin Kouzmanoff made two errors and 1B Daric Barton, SS Cliff Pennington and RP Brad Ziegler had one apiece. It was the Athletics' first five-error game since July 6, 2007, also against the Mariners.

Although there is no timetable for Oakland Athletics RP Andrew Bailey's (forearm) return to the mound, he is unlikely to be ready for Opening Day after straining his forearm Monday, March 14, according to MLB.com's Jane Lee. Fuentes, who has not given up a run in five outings this spring, is the likely candidate to take over the closer's role while Bailey recovers. However, the team could use a closer-by-committee approach when the season opens based on matchups. RPs Grant Balfour, Michael Wuertz, Brad Ziegler, Craig Breslow and Joey Devine could be possibilities.

Oakland Athletics RP Brad Ziegler has begun throwing a two-seam fastball, which ends up sinking as a result of his sidearm delivery, and the pitch could help him remain in the bullpen, reports Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. "I can't take anything for granted," said Ziegler. "I don't want to have a job because it's been handed to me, anyway."
